Hi all,

Any reason why my download speed on the 384 service fluctuates from 40kb/s to 30 to 20 to 10 and back up to 40 fairly consitently while downloading?

Is this the ISP, the line, etc? I have tested with two separate accounts (Telkom and now DataPro) and the Telkom account didnt do this?

Also, my speed test results:
- Location - Paulshof, JHB
- DataPro uncapped - 384 line
- Download time: 11.796 seconds
- Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
- Estimated line speed: 345.9 (kilobits/second)
- Estimated line speed: 42.4 (kiloBytes/second)
I see somewhat faster 400 kilobits and above on some other forum members results?

I therefore assume the ISP, any comments? My line was installed yesterday.

Thanks,
John

Hello,

Earlier this year I had my line upgraded to 1024. I experienced similar problems in that the speed of the line would jump all over the place while downloading. Telkom finally sent these two engineers who spent about an hour testing various things on the line. They concluded the line was excellent and that the variance in speed was due to the fact that so many people were connected at the exchange and that if many people were all downloadng at once it would affect available bandwidth.

I am not an expert on these matters, I was told this by Telkom, so not sure if its correct or not. All I can say is that I experience most of my fluctuations during business times.

Regards
Doc

Yeah, if I run the Telkom speed test it sits at a max of 41kb/s, the speed was jumping around during a Windows update so its possible the intl speed was fluctuating, I ill monitor it all the same...

Thanks
