Ok, so I have just moved to Germany, but now I want to download myself some series as everything here is just in German etc. But now I am all paranoid on downloading torrents over here with the fear of being caught, like my IP being tracked etc, is there anyway for me to download torrents anonymously? Is peer blocker enough to keep me safe?

Use a VPN, preferably one that does not keep logs, and be careful for DNS leaking.

A VPN is a bit of a mission. Just use BT Guard.

BTguard is fairly expensive I think

It's 6 or 7 dollars a month. Not too bad if you live in a country where P2P privacy is a must and you have a high speed connection that can make full use of the unlimited BTGuard speeds.

I use peerblock. Is that not enough?

Hasn't it been nearly three years since Peerblock was last updated?

Hey man.

I also live here in Deutschland.

It's never really safe downloading torrents here. Chances of getting a fine is big and there's basically no way of getting out of it.

Check out the forums on Toytown Germany. There's a very long thread on this topic.

Btw, where do you stay?

It downloads the latest lists everyday...

Peerblock is no guarantee of anonymity. BTGuard is. Personally I wouldn't take any chances.

How can it never be safe? A VPN, torrent-to-http service or BTGuard sounds pretty safe to me.

I have no idea, i've been doing a lot of reading on the net, and it sounds very unsafe to torrent over here with massive fines, and i really dont want to take that chance yet until i can find a way that I am sure i wont get,but from what I have read it sounds like they catch the people that are seeding,so i guess doing direct downloads would be on the safe side.

The amount of people being sued in Germany for illegally downloading torrents is very high. Ask Germans know this and will probably warn you against it if you ask them.

Check out the forum I suggested. All the info you are looking for is on there.

It might be ok with a vpn but if they ever do detect it you are looking at fines starting at a absolute minimum of R8000. Many fines are closer to R30000.

Check out the website eyeondemand for legal ways of watching English t.v. over here. I just don't think it's worth the risk tbh. but each to his own as they say.

Hardly. You don't need to provide personal details anymore w/ bitcoin etc.

Yes but why even bother getting bitcoins and then paying for VPNs and then mucking with torrenting, seeds and ratios, when you can use that same money to get usenet at full speed?

I don't get it?

What about PCFormats bundled disc - segment called "online privacy"?

OP asked for torrenting advice & got it.

Sure usenet - you hit a wall with that pretty fast though. Its really only useful for content that is very mainstream and fairly recent. I'm in that position right now where thats an issue. So I'll now have to mess with bitcoins etc despite having multiple paid usenet a/c & access to various nzb indexing sites.
