OP asked for torrenting advice & got it.

Sure usenet - you hit a wall with that pretty fast though. Its really only useful for content that is very mainstream and fairly recent. I'm in that position right now where thats an issue. So I'll now have to mess with bitcoins etc despite having multiple paid usenet a/c & access to various nzb indexing sites.

Sometimes you utter the utmost rubbish. Actually, a lot of the time.

Fantastic contribution to the thread. I like how it was backed with a concise argument and facts.

Lame ad hominem attacks aside, I was actually serious. Right now I'm trying to pull mainstream content from 2008. Its got millions of views, renewed for multiple seasons. Golden globe nomination etc. None of the 4 NS have it - never mind repairing pars...they literally don't have it...even the stupidly expensive blocknews server doesn't. Thats 5 years back - god help you if you want something from say 2000, or as I said something without golden globe nominations etc.

News servers are not the same since Nzbmatrix closed down. The indexers are getting better but they are all very much the same. Nzbmatrix used to have basically anything you could think of, I would love to get a hold of that database again :)

Astraweb has 1600 days retention so unless you are downloading some obscure series they should have it.

Tried them too - they don't have it either. I realized later though that I made a mistake above. I specifically require the 720p version - which lowers the odds. I just checked - a SD version is available but its unrepairable.

Don't get me wrong - I use usenet 95% of the time & its great. But its no where near a complete or perfect solution.

Anyone will tell you that you are smoking the good s**t. News servers pretty much all have 1300+ days of retention, so old and new stuff are always available. Sure, you might hit the wall now and then but most of the time, they are there. Your comment that it is only for newer content is simply incorrect.

BTW, which 4 NS are you talking about that you can't get the content from?

I'm guessing you've realised that you are talking out of your arse and have no comeback, so you're resorting to insults. It only serves to prove my original point.

As you were...

Nah I copied that "argumentation style" from some chop on the internet who's opening line was an insult.

But honest, I couldn't be arsed to explain to someone that <4 years retention doesn't cover "old stuff", unless you think "old stuff" is season 1 of GoT.

1) I tried to help you out but you resorted to insults. My original comment was true, even though it was an insult. You really do talk a lot of crap on the forums.

2) That's where your logic fails. Older things are often re-uploaded to Usenet, giving it, once again, 1300+ days of retention. It's really not that hard to comprehend for most people.

Hardly. You don't need to provide personal details anymore w/ bitcoin etc.

I'm not talking about payment methods. It's just a schlep. I briefly used the VPN I got with my Unotelly subscription and it was a nuisance. Many aspects of the internet were slower through the VPN and it had to be manually configured on a number of devices.

Read some "news" instead.

Until recently I had an unlimited Newsdemon account, and it was hell from start to finish. Download speeds, retention and completion were all excellent, but usenet is just such a s**t means of acquiring stuff, at least for my needs.

- It sucks hard for music
- New popular movies are often taken down soon after being uploaded
- A lot of stuff is password locked
- Many torrents are not available on usenet
- Torrent sites like TPB and KAT make it really easy to see what's popular
- My Afrihost business account doesn't shape torrents ever
- It's pretty much impossible to run into fake or misleading content when torrenting
- All SA ISP's provide a complementary usenet service, so you can still download the occasional item when torrents fail you at around 200KB/s.

I use a combination of both. There are just some things that either platform doesn't have.

"Hey OP, yeah I personally use Usenet 95% of the time and it's great, but you go ahead and setup a VPN with bitcoins and use uTorrent because this one time I couldn't find a HD Rip of a 5 year old movie that had a golden globe nomination. What? Usenet? Yes I personally use it. Yes, it works great... but you should go buy bitcoins and stuff"

Ok, so I have just moved to Germany, but now I want to download myself some series as everything here is just in German etc. But now I am all paranoid on downloading torrents over here with the fear of being caught, like my IP being tracked etc, is there anyway for me to download torrents anonymously? Is peer blocker enough to keep me safe?

Hey.
