I first have to buy a house (but it's quite immanent).

Thereafter the next vehicle I would buy would be an old ****ed-up bakkie to do the job of all those smart SUVs, which is to haul my ass (within 10 minutes) from my house to the beach ... after work.

wouldn't a car do the same job?

Nope ... ground clearance is an issue.

The beach is quite secluded during working hours and week days, hence it's appeal.

You won't regret it. I recently bought the Audi Q5 2 TDi Quattro.

Fuel consumption is fantastic. Averaged 7.7L/100km down to Cape Town and back to Pretoria. Average for work commute 8.6L/100km. Your consumption figures should be even better.

My next one will be the 3 TDi S-Tronic.

Yeah, saw consumption of between 5.5 and 7.5 on the website. Still need to sign an OTP Monday though - so hope nothing falls between lip and cup.

Only downside is space - there's not much - but it's got all my wants and more :)

2013, with 30000km on the clock, for 390k.

So over my initial price range by 40k, but my trade is 60k more than what I estimated - so quite keen.

pricey! I hope you are happy together :) Those potholes won't know what hit them

You might be able to find a slightly older Q5 in your price range with about 50K on the clock.

I paid 310K for my Audi Q5 2 TDi Quattro, 52 000 on the clock and 2011 model.

It gives me approx 2 years of worry free driving while in Freeway plan and then I can upgrade.

I say this because you mentioned space...

What do you think is fair for trade on a 2011 Alfa QV fully spec'd, in service plan and warranty, 49 000 on the clock and in excellent condition?

A TransUnion report says between 200k and R210k for trade, R220 to R230k for retail. There's two cars listed on Autotrader around the R210k and R220k mark (obviously at retail prices, not trade).

Was thinking along the same lines. Albeit, there will be some that will even offer as low as R150k.
When I sold my Kia Cerato couple of years ago, trade was R140k. I was offered R90k by some well known dealership. Sold it for R135k in the end.

It is an Alfa so 150k seems possible... I just for 20% more than what I expected for a Renault :D but it was a low price car and I didn't get a discount on the new car

No discount on this deal either. Have asked another dealer for a quote as well, so let's see what tomorrow brings :)

So I've settled the quote with the dealer, with a trade at 170k :). Either getting the car tomorrow (low chances) or Monday (most probably).

I just need to get the Audi service plan and warranty print outs, and for it to pass Dekra inspection.

You are bloody lucky!

Our guys wouldn't have paid over 150 k and then I would have had to offer all sorts of crap that I won't even go to on a public forum!

Take the Audi and RUN with the wind! :D

So I went today to collect the car I bought last week Monday... The manager had to test drive the car I'm trading in before accepting everything as they hadn't driven the car when they made the offer.

Their offer of R50k was on the offer to purchase signed by both the salesman and the manager. The new car has been transferred to my name, the window tint removed, the one side mirror replaced and new number plates made. The difference has been paid for since last week Monday and after the drive they decided to lower their offer to R40k for some reason of apparent defects! Nothing has changed since they first valued the car... Needless to say, I cancelled everything and took all the papers I signed back home. Now to wait for them to refund the difference

Hahaha :) yeah I posted last year that Jeep offered me R140k trade. I'm really amazed at my trade and negotiating :D

Also calculated that j should be looking to save +~ R600 in fuel a month, so with my repayments the same, I'm saving with this deal (besides getting an auto, newer car and SUV ride height)

:)

This story makes me angry and is wrong on so many counts!

Name and shame the bastards, and see if you can get hold of the Motor Industry Ombudsman.
