I got the figures from their site: http://www.subaru.co.za/vehicle/forester/specs-and-pricing. Anything heavier than my car is heavy to me.

I said I drive with a heavy foot, the numbers on the site should be slightly inflated since the manufacturer is the last guy to trust. And bring me an XT, let me drive it like a poepol and I'll get you your double figures.
Great - I'm glad you went to the correct site - please tell me what is wrong with figures between 7.2 and 8.5 l/100??? This is for a 4 wheel drive SUV, not a Fiat 500....
No you won't :\
I drove the new Automatic 2.5 like a poepol and consumption went over 20L/100km. If you drive in perfect conditions you get high 8's. Claimed is 8.5 I think.

Brenden your nose has just shot off the page. The only time you will see a figure of 20l/100 km is on the instant consumption readout as you pull off from a robot. NO new Subaru is capable of averaging crazy figures like that.

EDIT:

Diesel was offered in the Forester and was a very slow seller - they then withdrew it as everyone who wanted one wanted an automatic - the auto diesel is not even available in Japan at the moment - if you want a diesl Subaru, you must buy an Outback, which happened to be towcar of the year last year.

You sir, clearly do not know what driving like a poepol means.

Honestly, if they weren't so thirsty (relatively) and my foot wasn't as heavy :whistling: it would be my next car. The only real problem is finding a dealership when you want to service the car etc.

I know it is not a silly town car and therefor heavier on fuel. Compared to it's other vehicles in its class it is probably not that heavy, but the lack of diesel option and the figures on the site gives me the idea that it is on the heavier side. Given that when you buy this car you aren't doing it with great fuel consumption in mind I would say that there is no real problem with those figures - but they are worth highlighting to the OP.

This :D

@Fazda, don't you have access to some cars we can take out to a track under the guise as a promotion and let me show you what driving like a poepol is all about :p

Unfortunately, no longer! :(

Crazy thing is that our track cars didn't even go as high as our resident poepal claims to have got.

Another contender is the Honda CRV, but make sure you go for the 2.4L Executive A/T model like this one.

Pros:
It's under your top end budget
It definitely has the space in buckets and then some
The executive model meets your requirements (Auto, Bluteef, Bi-xenons)
It's low mileage and will have the balance of the 5 year plan
It's AWD
The 2.4L motor is tried, tested and bulletproof (relatively spaeking), it's also not overly heavy on juice either
It's a Honda, so no one will want to steal it

You can read more about the detailed specs on Honda's Website as well as Unitrans Specifications.

I wouldnt say full time AWD is a pro, its been confirmed it uses more fuel than its 2WD counterpart.

That one is FWD, actually...

It's a pro in EVERY respect except a marginal increase in fuel consumption depending on what car you are looking at. For example, a AWD Forester uses between 4 and 6 l/100 LESS than a FWD Jeep Compass ( 2.0 litre) and up to 7 litres LESS than a Jeep Patriot with a 2.4 4 cylinder... (4x4/4x2)

You cannot just make a sweeping statement like that without actually comparing models.
