you pay the full price and after a lot of effort you may get the discount, no guarantee.... lot of red tape.

Just buy a cheap second hand car.

Also, you have to pay the full installment, then they reimburse you (if you meet the requirements that they set down)

From what I know, its things like minimum mileage. You have to submit photos of the vehicle from specific angles by a specific date each month etc etc etc..

Also, these cars are not always 'new'. Some people are being sold Code 3 or accident damaged cars.

For R699, you will not be getting the car you saw the advert on e.g. Corsa. You will get a Cherri QQ 0.8 POS or some miff Tata.

R699 is for the cheapest car on their books, just for starters.

Then there is a minimum mileage stipulation, that is why you have to photograph your odometer every month - 2500 minimum, if I remember correctly.
If you do not do the mileage, or you forget one of the miriad of things that they want, you will pay the full instalment on the car until you get your act together.
The car is also never going to be yours, as the "699" doesn't pay for it during the repayment period, so then you are left with having to settle the car or giving it back to them, and you would then again be carless!

If it looks to good to be true then it usually is, and in this case, it definitely is!

^^ and you're still liable for repairs and maintenance IIRC, since many of them don't come with warranties.

Drive a new car for R699 per month?

I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but are these deals worth it? You know the cars with the stickers on the back window saying you can drive a new car for as little as R699 per month.

Are the any catches or is it worth going for something like this. Other than having the sticker which makes everyone know you are paying little for the car, I see some pretty nice cars on the road like this.

T's and C's apply

Generally you have to send photo evidence every month, not sure what other catches. They also only give you a discount on original price based on how far you drive daily

Your petrol gets subsidized for the lower price. The normal price is Rxxxx, if you do n kilometers per month (with photographic evidence) they'll drop the price to as low as R699. You have to do quite a lot of driving, as far as I know you have to do 2000 KM per month. Some of them will also only subsidize for the first two years.

I've heard some bad stories about them, such as the photo submissions not working on their website around the due date stopping you from submitting the photographic evidence in time and being billed the full amount of Rxxxx. Their terms and conditions cover them for such cases. I've also read stories (might've even be here on MBB) about the cars only coming with a six month warranty, being demo models, etc.

I would stay away from these.

I investigated this as a option before I got my first car, it took them 5 minutes to approve me and that was really dodgy.

If you read the fine print 'in detail' you'll see that they expect you to do a certain amount of mileage in the car and you have to take photos showing the signage (if it's still on the car or not) basically weekly and the cheek of it is, it must have the date and time etc on the photo.

And it's NOT just R699! You have to take insurance out that THEY approve, for me, they only insurance they would approve was insurance that wouldve cost me R1800 pm!
So add the R699 to that!

There is more to that, but suffice to say, I just didn't bother with them.

Also, the cars are NOT new... they are hard driven cars.

The web site for them is: http://justgroup-africa.com/

Check that insurance :D

short version

you apply at full credit.
monthly photo submissions that show signage is still there,
and that there is no accident damage
Xkm to be driven by you, at your petrol expense

should you meet the above criteria then they give you a monthly rebate.

Add to that their "approved" insurance, then not so pretty anymore....

only marginally different from a pyramid scheme.... (IMO)

Friend of mine has one. They send her new stickers to put on the car once in a while- an insurance add or whatever and you have that terrible sign on the back, and yes you have to send in photographic evidence that you are doing the mileage, but she hasn't had any problems, and is saving around 2000 a month.
There were two options- one, you get a discount based on how many people respond to your add- kind of like commission, or a fixed discount every month based on the distance travelled, which sounds like the safer option imho.
