Im a car enthusiast. And a cyclist. I commute and literally a video game where everyone is out to kill you. at the same time, i go on breakfast drives where other cyclists annoy me. Evil on both sides. but only cyclists die.

its a psychological barrier,
your in a car, anything smaller will come off worse than you
same thing when your in a Bakkie vs a small Hatchback like a Picanto.
same thing like a truck vs a car.

it seems Might is right is universal.

Both motorists & cyclists can act like d*cks on the road, but the former are encased in a metal box and the latter not.

I live in Stellenbosch, and I've stopped counting how often I've ran over cyclists because they just blast through Stop signs, through one-ways, etc. Not to mention the number of times my wife & I have nearly been hit by cyclists not obeying the pedestrian crossings.

If you want to use the road, obey the ****ing rules like everybody else.

As can be evidenced by some of the comments on this forum...

Agree totally. In my club, you face disciplinary if you jump robots/stop streets.

I can't count how many times cyclist drive 2 or 3 abreast and jump traffic lights and stop signs.

Not all cyclists are bad riders but the majority give the others a bad name.

It also doesn't help that our roads are not accommodating for cyclists either!

I fully respect cyclists on the road and always pass them safely. But **** some of them don't do themselves any favours and I am sure motorist get frustrated. Its more attitude that anything from both parties.
I have seen them yelling at motorists, riding 2-4 along side one another.
Another instance was an BMW X5 blocking the entire road ahead for kilometres so the cyclists could ride in a pack on the road. The impression it creates is that they own the road when we should all know its shared.

for me it's more a question of their safety: I drive a Defender, so even if I'm stationary and a cyclist blasts through a stop street and hits my car, they're going to be the one with major damage.

This is the part that cyclists don't seem toget: they are the vulnerable ones. Just because you wear bright pink lycra tights doesn't make you invincible!

Shared roads are a death trap. No pavements, no cycle lanes. Pedestrians, cyclists, drivers all on the same shitty roads...
Used to cycle a lot in the UK, had one call in 2 and a bit years in heavy traffic but never really feared for my life. 2 Months in this country was enough for me to give up road riding all together, too many reckless and incompetent drivers out there... You can do everything right and still get written off, just not worth the risk.

Don't you dare hoot at cyclists that ride 3 or 4 abreast, they don't like it and generally show you some sort of sign language, don't get me started on the idiots who have a cycle lane and still decide to ride 3 abreast in the road, how doff must these guys be? I'm a cyclist and these cyclists annoy the hell out of me, unfortunately the bad ones seem to be out competing the good ones.

I must be honest, when i saw this thread title, i thought I should stay away, like the threads in news, where i end up just getting angry at ignorance... but everythere here is true and fair.

Cyclists, a very large proportion of, ride proper k@#
Cars, drive as if cyclists dont exist, dont follow rules, are constantly on phones. ignore cycling lanes.

Being someone on either side of the fence, i dont see an easy solution. but ill keep driving/cycling

Not gonna lie if you are one of those cyclists that drive down Beyers Naude in groups of 10+ at 5pm taking up an entire lane of traffic you are eventually gonna get yourself killed.

Most are pretty good and stay on the side but the few with big egos (same with motor bikes) will end up hurt/dead.

+1 I also grew up cycling alot, i find many other cyclists got this arrogance about them, this holier than though attitude...
Dont stand 3 abreast when riding or stopped, keep single file...!
