Johannesburg - The price of petrol is to go up by between 5c and 8c a litre next Wednesday, January 6.
The Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Thursday that the price of 91 octane petrol will increase by 5c per litre, while 93 octane will rise by six cents a litre and 95 octane by 8c a litre.
The wholesale price of diesel 0.05% Sulphur and 0.005%% Sulphur will, however, decrease by 17 cents per litre.
The wholesale price of Illuminating Paraffin will be increased by 3c a litre, with a 4c a litre increase in the Single Maximum National Retail price.
The department said that during the period December 1 to December 27 the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and Illuminating Paraffin had increased.
"The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 01 December 2006 to 27 December 2006 was R7.0609 compared to R7.3083 during the previous period."
