You will enjoy it, and please do drive it down, make memories with that beast.

Dont listen to those ones saying you should get it delivered, they all drive tazzes, they have no idea what a trip in a 320d is like.

I will come with you on the trip and drive for you as well.
320D is the best car that was ever made and it would mean so much to me

Definitely preferable to have a co-driver if possible. If it is a busy traffic time I prefer the Kimberly rd (N12) to the N1. You slow down through some of the small towns but better than being stuck behind queue's of heavy trucks and long stop go's on the N1.

I would also break it up. Do CT to Kimberly or Bloem on Day 1 and then the rest the second day after sleeping over.

Road Quality ok, right through from Cpt to JHn.
Toll fees. It is cheaper one way vs the other way. Cannot remember which. Use google maps, it will give you the toll fees breakdown.

How often have you driven in excess of 500km?
Quite often, do the JHB to KZN South Coast atleast 3 times a year

I've done it in 14 hours , only stopping for fuel and food . Easily done as long as long as you not scared to give it abit of stick and watch out for the trucks after dark

have you looked at a straight 6 diesel BMW by any chance?

I almost bought a 420D this year but last minutes managed to get an Audi A6 3.0TDI and have to say nothing like a 6 cylinder diesel, very fuel efficient and low down torque you doing speed limits at 1400rpm returning 4.5L/100Km on the highway

Wifey might join, so i have my personal Tindr. Thanks

If it's 2 of you, no problem. Just stop every 60 to 90 minutes and stretch the legs. Then have one or two 30 minute breaks somewhere interesting. Like Matjiesfontein or the a farm stall with nice biltong and droewors like Rietfontein Padstal outside Leeu-Gamka. Also Karoo Padstal past Richmond.

Try not to eat chocolates and chips or stuff with sugar that'll make too tired.

And don't go over 130km/h. Traffic cops will be out in force for their bonuses.

Hi All

Cant seem to find the last thread on driving from CPT to JHB

Long story short, thinking of buying a car from a dealer in CPT, so will fly down.

Anyone done the trip recently, never done it before, i know it can be done in a day, unfortunately dont have alot of leave ti sacrifice so will be done on 1 day.

Any thing i should be mindful of? Condition of roads? Any hotspot areas along the way? Any other advice for this trip?

I did this trip two weeks ago, I slept over in Bloem. Lots of trucks on the road and they drive badly, it's possible to do it in one day, I left at 5h00 in the morning and got to bloem just after 15h00, so could've potentially driven all the way and got to GP before dark, but it's a long drive and the roads are busy so you get tired, I wouldn't advise driving straight through.

Saving these stops. Wifey is a bit of bilting junkie

With WC average speed enforcement, if you dont have cruise control it is pain in the ass trying to stay 120 average. I use my garmin to determine ave speed.

Can do it one trip.
Alone: I left CPT after 4am arrived at destination in JHB at 19h30. Incl. Lunch/pitsop in Colesberg. Diesel. So about 1,5 tanks

With wife and daughter, I swear we stop every 30 min. So minimum two days.

So do it over weekend.

Lots of trucks on the N1, chances of hitting an average speed of 120 is low, admittedly he will be driving with a fast car, I did the trip in a d4d hilux.
