Living the dreamI did it in one day at the end of 2009 in a 1982 VW MkI Golf GLS and loved every minute of itI stopped for fuel twice, the roads were quiet and the Golf never missed a beat.
Nice work,That's what I was getting on my first trip up in a Petrol BMW View attachment 1190920
Average Speed is only for the last part of WC. It is easy to maintain an average speed of120, you just have to plan your overtaking otherwise you find yourself stuck behind a truck doing 60. Worse, is those once a year lang pad drivers who think its fun to create a mini convoy behind a truck.Lots of trucks on the N1, chances of hitting an average speed of 120 is low, admittedly he will be driving with a fast car, I did the trip in a d4d hilux.
Cause and effect. The more you drink/eat, the more you piss/poop.2. prep food & drinks to keep the stops to a minimum
ughEspecially when we're both there.

The most comprehensive answer to my post thus far, thanks !Done the PTA-CPT and back quite a few times, I am actually doing it in December again. Tips and info from my side would be:
1.Drive during the day, it is more relaxing and you get to see some pretty scenery.
2.Sleep over somewhere, there are 100's of places on the route. I normally choose a little town just off the main highway, that way you also see a new town and see a place that you normally wouldn't. Also the B&B in those towns tend to be cheaper.
3.If you drive through a town, stick to the speed limit. Especially Beaufort-West, Laignsburg, Richmond, Hanover and Trompsburg. There are ALWAYS speedtraps. It is a major income for those towns so they are always there.
4.The highway is in good condition but you might have a stop and go where you have to wait a few minutes if they are working on the road.
5.If you are tired, stop and rest
I forgot: have more than 1 CD in your carTips and info from my side would be:
Or have a phone with apple music/spotify/etc playlist on itI forgot: have more than 1 CD in your car
Pleasure dude. The most comprehensive answer to my post thus far, thanks !
Thanks Dude ! Dorpie vibes !My rule of thumb: 10kms Before and after a dorpie stick to the speed limit. Traffic officers in smaller dorpies goes home for lunch/back to town with their lunch monies. The cannot be bothered to drive too far from conviences.
lol true dat. I had a golf 4 estate 1.9 tdi those years. Man that thing on a 50 liter tank would do 1200 km on a tank. I use to drive every jhb cape trip trying to break my own record for best km per tank. I drove like a real gentleman to be as efficient as possible. ( or miss daisey)sorry but how does one sleep at all knowing they are getting a 320d the next day?
