lol true dat. I had a golf 4 estate 1.9 tdi those years. Man that thing on a 50 liter tank would do 1200 km on a tank. I use to drive every jhb cape trip trying to break my own record for best km per tank. I drove like a real gentleman to be as efficient as possible. ( or miss daisey)

you going to have a fun trip. diesels have loads of torque and are the best highway cruisers.
Also had a Gold 5 with the 1.9TDI, more than 10 years, been using petrol since. Fingers crossed, this car will live up to the good reviews from friends, especially fuel economy vs power

Diesels are dirty bitches but they love clean. Service on the intervals and replace air oil and diesel filters and they run forever.

Looking forward to what you end up choosing. I'm planning on doing the same, but flying to JHB and driving to PE as soon as I find a decent A4 Avant up there.

The pickings in the EC and WC are quite slim, but JHB and DBN has tons

So you're looking for the diesel as well
Initially I was on the fence between a Volvo V50 D5, a BMW Touring 325i/320d, Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi or Avant 2.0TDI.

I did hours upon hours of research and eventually crossed the Volvo off the list because of the relatively high price and scarcity of spares, the BMW because of the lack of spare wheel, the Honda because of the scarcity of good, clean models and that left me with the Avant as the only viable option.

I have since broadened my search to the petrol models too, as I really don't do enough miles to justify a diesel model over a petrol model.

BTW, you should check out M539 Restorations on YouTube. He specialises in restoring older BMW's and is generally quite an entertaining watch, even if he only works on petrol models.

Good process of narrowing down yoyr options! Agreed on the Volvo, always been a sucker for Hondas, and love the look of Audi too. Will definitely give thid channel some viewing time
