I booked to renew my driver's licence online — and it's late

I recently booked to renew my driving licence card using the National Administration Traffic Information System's (Natis) online platform. While the experience was great, my card still isn't ready for collection.

Upon completing the driving renewal application, I was advised it would be ready to collect in four to six weeks.

I just don't give a **** about being continental anymore.

Lets decolonise the **** out of africa!

I'm going to make it my lifes mission to just not give a **** anymore.

Just, fone mine at the Bloemfontein DLC, doing the tests, went fairly smoothly. Then to the long, long, queue for the payment.

2 hours later, an Official, with a clipboard and a stamp cane out and addressed those of us in the queue. Apparently the system was slow. Secondly one of those who worked there, had "died" and half the staff had been given the day off to attend the funeral.

Most of those in the queue got their papers stamped, and departed. They must return on Teusday, morning 07:30, with stamped forms and will be helped first.

I elected to stay, as it would not be convenient for me to make the long drive out to the Testing Center. Took a further hour for me to pay and get out of there, so I could return to work.

No, the wait is on, till I hopefully get an SMS, saying my new driving license is ready for collection. No expectation, that this will happen within the 6 weeks promised.

When I did my renewal, they told me that they do not send sms's or e-mails, so you have to go in to check if your license has arrived. Got mine after 6 weeks, but it may have arrived sooner, I don't know.

Well they took my cellphone number, and told me I would get an SMS ...

But I will go check after 6 weeks, if I still have not recieved an SMS.

In the UK you just apply online to renew your drivers license, no stupid eye tests, no need to go in person anywhere, and 2 weeks later it arrives in the post through your letterbox. Plus it's valid for 10 years before you have to renew again. Why can't we have nice things like that? The whole process is so stupid and antiquated.

You can check on the Natis website what the current status is of your application.

Well this is SA not the UK. We dont care about what happens in the UK.

Yea, carry the old licence and the proof that you renewed in the car, add drive to check if renewed to foreseeable future weekly schedule.

Same experience as that of @mylesillidge.
It was dead-quiet and the women who assisted me with forms and eye test were rather irritable: "We're just sitting here waiting for you"; I had a 14:50 appointment.

Thing is I also went 3 months before it expired and it is still not ready; haven't received an SMS. It expired 29 June 2024.

So you don't think we should look at the example of other countries with far better processes than us and try to emulate them?
No. Whats next, MOT every year? Extra taxes for driving a car into the city?

I can agree with insurance, but the rest No.

Maybe not MOT every year (maybe every 2 or 5 years), but it's pretty crazy that cars only have to undergo roadworthy tests when they change ownership. That's why we have so many lethal cars on the road.

MOT does make sense, thoguh it would be inconvienient, but I agree it should be done more regualrly, half the cars on the roads would probably fail and get impounded.

If they did bring in an MOT they should make it law that the company doing the testing is not allowed do car repairs as well. That's one of the biggest problems with the MOT system in the UK, that car repair businesses also do MOT checks. You can imagine what a conflict of interest that is.

I went for mine there on 11 Apr and received SMS that it can be collected on 25 May.
