So guys the time is fast approaching. I intend to do my longest road trip ever. The drive from Durban to Swakopmund, Namibia. it is roughly 2500km. Any recommendations or advice before starting the drive? I am so excited and a bit nervous too. I have always wanted to do the drive but 2500km is not a joke. What would you recommend to someone driving such a distance? I have never driven such a distance before. maybe max of 500km to jozi.

Relax and enjoy. do not drive against a clock. when you are tired then stop somewhere and relax. life is not a rush.
thanks man... I am very excited lol. was even thinking of having the car sent to a proper workshop for a service lol....it is running great so far but can't be too careful

Regular stops (2 hours / 200km) for a leg stretch and walk around, maybe some coffee.

Stop when you're tired.

Don't rush. Plan the journey with safe overnight stops.

Make sure your tyres INCLUDING your spare are in good condition. Consider having some sort of breakdown cover in place.

Check you have you car's registration certificate with you for when you cross the border - and confirmation from insurance and/or finance house that you're insured for and allowed to remove the car from SA.

Apart from the human side, also made sure your car is in tip top shape. You don't want to be breaking down in the middle of no where. And if you do be prepared.
- When last did your car have service
- Check tires/water/oil etc
- Carry a medical aid kit
- Have a cell phone car charger in case you need to make a call if you break down (and hopefully there is coverage)
- Check if you have break down cover and what it covers

Take breaks often and enjoy the trip.
