damn 14 hours.... I will try to maintain speed i only went over 120 once when i went to jozi and i was averaging around 130 - 140.... but i managed to get back down to 120. I do not want to be caught overspeeding.

the long road i try so hard but driving during the day helps when you can see far into the distance

can speed up a little

but yeah food cigarettes and good company does help

I feel you on that, I would love to do a big trip like that as well, very envious of you. I will do one though, just need my little ones to be a little older first.

I haven't read the thread so I don't know if it's been suggested, but I listen to a novel when I drive long distances. Two weeks ago for example I drove from Hermanus to Humansdorp and back the next day, 7 or 8 hours each way. I only stopped once and actually enjoyed the journey because the book was great.

a few guys suggested flying. It is cheaper but i really wanna do this trip on the road man. I believe the experience will be very different from flying.

Of course it will be different.

Flying is for when the destination is the only thing that matters.... the Road Trip is for when the journey is part of the experience.

I wouldn't even bother to reply to those fools if I were you. Many here get what you want, it's just so much better driving somewhere if you're not in a hurry.

Haven't read all, so sorry if repeats: Try having bottles of water...500 ml nice size in a coolbox on ice and drink plenty...reduces fatigue and forces you to stop.

Learn how to fix punctures and have a puncture repair kit with spare "snottiness" can use more than x1 on a single puncture, and try and borrow a small 12V compressor.
Take it easy and enjoy.

On 1 of my roadtrips I stayed in this arty farty b&b. It was just after Africa Burn and some of the other guest attended it. The hostess said she going make "stok brood" in the build in braai and I decided to get some meat to braai. So we ended up drinking wine and chatting around the fire sharing the food. Then she started rolling a joint and shared that also.

One other thing: check for jack and wheel spanners, and maybe a strong piece of board to put under the jack if on soft ground, but most importantly check your wheel nuts!!!
Not so much that they are tight, but that YOU can undo them ALL with the tools available you!!
The last person on those nuts may have over tightened and you can find yourself stranded.
My mechanic's assistant did this to me ....I broke a 17 socket and bent a spanner trying to get x1 nut off not fun.
