Incomplete comparison. Many factors were not calculated as said and many others just left out. Flying is for convenience and speed. It will be the costlier option.

Hate driving on SA roads. I fly and book a car where I land. Don't mind much if it's more expensive. It saved me several hours of torture on the road.

As it states in the article, you did read it, right?

However, extra costs such as renting a vehicle at your destination and potentially paying for long-term parking for your car at the airport were not taken into account.

silly comparison, Flying is Cheaper, always has been and always will be,
especially if you on your own,

otherwise, long Distance bus? compared to a Private car,
for the people who hate flying might be a cheaper option.

also Train, that be the cheapest, if our railways weren't slowly being turned into Squatter camps.
or stripped to the Bricks,
