The acid "era" was great for clubbing and i remember the shift to mdma and to what was called dance music. the alternative venues had a gothic vibe and the dance places were trancy with everyone facing the dj ??????

Still miss those old days.

Latter day drugs that scare the hell out of me are kat (quat?), tik, that neaupe stuff and my absolute terror - heroin. I know it's been around for ages but it's openly used now.

Yea the really fun stopped when kat was introduced :(, mdma, acid, pills plus electric workshop and international dj's!!!!!!!!!!!! h20, splash also awesome. Mushrooms for those events. Candy flipping was about the best high ever!!!!

Truth was also pretty awesome but kat killed everything, kat really to me isn't a club drug, difficult to get your line, pills were easy slap em back and you done. Kat was a mission and my gosh people don't know how to use public toilets .

Yea i also stayed well away from heroine, i knew heroine was one of the most addictive drugs known to man.

Electric workshop on pills dancing to stuff like of miss jane, sarah machlalan remixes were also the highlight of my night even at clubs ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the memories :D. Back then there wasn't so many different kinds of house. You have no idea how badly kat has damaged so many of my friends lives though. For me alcohol is the worst drug apart from heroine.

;Not sure thats 100% true. Ive tried both, and I have friends who have been on and off for years. Most of them are the exact same and I would say they definitely enjoy life more when they are clean (for a few months) than when they are on

Thanks for the input. My reasoning was that after becoming addicted to hard drugs after years of use, you yearn for the feeling of having your brain unlocked, and no amount of smoking or drinking can free you from the shackles of normality. That being said, Having successfully triumphed over such dark times must be enlightening. Sadly, my friend didn't make it that far.

I agree with the above posts regarding Heroin. Don't do it. Not even once.

you do miss something, but i am till not 100% sure what it is.
Its not just about the feeling you get, its the whole experience. The fun with friends, the music, the feeling, the dont give a crap about anything else escapism part. Sometimes the memories of that seems much better than the memories of the bad bits.

For me, I dont enjoy normal life less, in fact, certain parts like exercising and playing squash i enjoy so much more now. I do sometimes miss parts of drug taking, and i think i will always have those thoughts. Whilst they are less frequent, it only takes a few drinks, the right atmosphere and music and familiar friends and the ideas of calling a dealer are right in the front of my mind.

Anyways, i guess from my side i would definitely say illegal drugs are not for everyone. Some people can take them and not lose control, others cant. It also varies from substance to substance. I can say I have had some very good times on drugs and whilst i regret parts of it, im glad i got to experience it.

Some of the most interesting people I have met have used LSD, weed and H. Changes your way of thinking, but really screws you up for life. After you come off them, the world will never be as bright and beautiful as it was before.

My experience has been quite the opposite. LSD let me see the beauty that's around me every day and even now almost 10 years after the last time its still with me.

Some people buy fancy cars and clothes or surround themselves with people who flatter them - I get all the happiness I need from just spending time in nature. Add my family to that and I think I'm a lot happier than most people.

Once you know what you are the little things are just not important anymore. I have a fairly hectic IT job and people always comment about how I never stress no matter what.

Now heroin on the other hand WILL mess up your life. Know the difference.

Without hard drugs, I probably might never have achieved the things I have achieved.

Hard drugs ensured that the brains of my potential competitors where fried, so that I got the nod ahead of them :)

Keep it up. This keeps older folks in work as the druggies are completely useless and mostly unemployable

I am going to assume you didn't go clubbing or any places that had drugs(alcohol) because your comments would seem ridiculous if you did actually go and you knew people who drank and experimented when they were at an age where fun was the name of the game.

Each their own but if you are going to sit and judge people i guess perhaps judging you could be called for :D.

I did and do know people who drank, did drugs etc. yes they had fun, but they have paid a huge price. They dont have fun anymore. When people fry their brains at that young age, well, their twighlight years turn out to be pretty miserable ones.

And Im not judging. Its their choice. But dont expect me to pay for their medical or welfare while they sit at home, completely dependant on others.

Nice thread, and some great opinions/stories. I believe alcohol is the worst - people do deranged things when drunk. Furthermore, I'm sure alcohol has ruined more lives (directly and indirectly) than any other drug/intoxicant? Herion and Opium are no go zones - highly addictive opiates which rapidly deteriorate the body and mind. Acid/LSD - crystalizes in your spine and never leaves your system. Shrooms and weed - I've never seen people do anything bad/evil/untoward while using these. A lot of highly successful corporate slaves prefer weed to alcohol when it comes to stress relieve and relaxation via an intoxicant.

Healthy mind and healthy body - must have a balance. And if you do consume soft intoxicants, moderation is the key - and this varies from person to person obviously.

Don't really know where weed is supposed to fit into the rest.

I have in my life used almost every illicit drug out there as well as many prescription drugs and over the counter drugs (nicotine and alcohol).
The only drugs that made me feel as if life was not worth living while sober would be those that mess with your dopamine levels in a long term way (coke/ephedrine based stuff) and of course alcohol.

I say alcohol because it is probably the single most dangerous drug available today. Alcohol related deaths kill more people than any other drug out there. Death from alcohol itself is also pretty damned high not to mention the **** it causes for your average alcoholic's family and friends.

my bad copa! guess it was a myth I just always believed blindly :(

Just read this on wiki:

"Retention of LSD in spinal fluidThis legend may have its foundation in the fact that chronic use can result in flashbacks and hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD).[27] There remains no consensus regarding the nature and causes of HPPD or flashbacks. A study of 44 HPPD subjects who had previously ingested LSD showed EEG abnormalities.[28] Given that some symptoms have environmental triggers, it may represent a failure to adjust visual processing to changing environmental conditions. There are no explanations for why only some individuals develop HPPD. Explanations in terms of LSD physically remaining in the body for months or years after consumption have been discounted by experimental evidence.[28]

Although the body does store some toxins in fat tissue, and residues of some drugs and toxins can be found in spinal fluid, LSD is not among these. LSD is metabolized by the liver, and has an elimination half-life of around 3–5 hours, and is insoluble in fats.
