There is never an excuse for drunk driving... Even Sans the Uber option. But this is not a deterrent this is merely the rtmc being retarded.... It would cost them so much money in lawsuits they would be bankrupt within 3 months.
No it won't. It's the cops enforcing it that will get sued putting an even greater burden on our tax system as it is literally deemed a bottomless pit.

Normal people, or law abiding citizens, don't drink and drive. And if two beers pushes you over the limit, maybe you should rather just have one beer and have the other one at home? Nobody HAS TO drink.

And this is also an out of control problem on the same level as other crimes, drunk drivers causes accidents. I had a young lady almost drive into me and a friend a few months ago on the bottelary road, drunk. She drove on the wrong side of the road, also claimed to only have had a few drinks.
You're saying it's against the law to have an alcohol level of 0.04 and that people that have a glass of beer or wine with their meal are law breakers? If they want that to be the case they should rather go for it instead of coming up with retarded ideas that bypass due process like the Aarto proposals. The limit was intentionally lowered by such a degree that if you're within it you can't be drunk so it's stupid to say that people shouldn't drink at all and drive or they're getting what's coming to them. The people that are really drunk don't even care for limits so it's stupid to hold them as an example of why this is "a good idea."

What's really needed is enforcement of the existing laws and an overhaul of our judicial process.

Maybe I'm overreacting and missed the joke completely.
No you missed common sense when it was handed out.

So they want to scare off people by depriving them of their rights and due process? Brilliant idea, but why stop at drunk driving? Surely those who text and drive can spend a month in jail before being granted bail. That would stop people from doing it. And those accused of speeding can spend about a year in jail before being granted bail.

You see where I am going with this? This is asinine. Unfortunately only those who can think further than the tip of their noses will see realise that.
I wish I could say we have competent lawmakers that will see the obvious failures in this but alas having seen them in action I can't. Luckily we have a constitution.

Sure, 7 days in jail for this I can agree with, but having one or two beers while playing golf and still being completely in control of your driving, but you're passed the limit...that's a whole other story
One or two beers will have little impact on my awful driving, but my short game might improve.

I haven't read all the threads, but I doubt this will hold up in the Constitutional Court.

Also, as far as I know, the Road Traffic Act doesn't supersede the Criminal Procedures Act.
Although I think drunk drivers should be taken off the road and penalised, this is not the way to do it.

Nobody said you can't have any, I have a limit of one glass of light beer if I know I'll still be driving. It's really not that difficult.

Why do people drink just one beer if it has zero effect on them? I thought people mainly drink for the feeling that alcohol gives. Might as well just drink water or grape juice if it has no effect. If it does influence you somewhat, then it is effecting your driving.

Alcoholics drink for the effect, I have a drink of something I like the taste of usually. Plus an icy cold beer on a very hot day is divine.

I have a very close friend that is like that, that I now have to invite to a planned bachelors party as my SO says I will be a rude arsehole if I don't do this, and he will feel bad.

Whats worse, him feeling bad or everyone thinking why did he invite that guy?

Edit: Or take the opportunity, get him pissed

Honestly if its really hot. 1 cold beer is absolutely amazing.
On a mostly empty stomach Guinness is also quite nice, bloody filling though.

A point should be made that South African people like to be social, like any other nation - we just happen to gather around a braai and shoot the **** for a few hours and lose track of time.

The last braai I went to we ended up smoking a side of vark and going through 24 Tafels and a table full of snacks. I had ridden there and I simply asked to sleep over and leave in the morning.

That vark was amazing with some eggs and toast.

It's not going to happen because it's probably illegal, sounds more like a scare people sober approach to the upcoming holiday season.

The RTMC are the official body that runs the NTP (National Traffic Police) so yes, it would cost them money (and us as taxpayers)...

People have already begun their seasonal drive like fools session, I hate the holiday's, and premature Christmas decorations.

It's the tinned Christmas music that gets me.
