No. Don't be drunk and drive.
you dont have to be drunk
No. Don't be drunk and drive.
As I said earlier... "That said while these new proposal are unnecessarily harsh the current penalties are laughable."you see, lost his licence for a year. fine. not go to prison for 7 days.
I think the concern is more the case of the cop being strict over one drink, or deciding you smell like alcohol and putting you in jail for 7 days rather than the obvious case of being over the limit. If you go out, knowing the risks involved, and choose to ignore the law then that's your own fault.
"what if"..."might be"....bla bla bla.NVM. I misread your post.
Legally one could drink until you hit the limit right?
What if the officer doesn't have a breathalyzer on him but he says he smells alcohol? He then locks you up. While this might be unlawful, what are you going to do? Resist arrest? You'll only be able to deal with this post 7 days. That's nuts.

Don't drink and drive. Couldn't be simpler.

Tho I'm not sure how much leeway a cop has in deciding whether to lock you up.
Currently, as I understand it, they need to first breathalyse you then follow that up with a blood test before you can be charged for DUI.I think the concern is more the case of the cop being strict over one drink, or deciding you smell like alcohol and putting you in jail for 7 days rather than the obvious case of being over the limit.

they should make it law
"they" ? Who's they? The people that now has to think FOR you?
Why not just think for yourself? If you plan to drink any alcohol whatsoever, make alternate arrangements for transport.
I'm confused as to why this is such an issue?
Then don't go drink alone. Take a few friends and one person is the designated driver. The government isn't going to just shut down all bars because a few people can't make alternate plans. For a lot of people uber or taxis or designated drivers is a viable option.currently they allow us to drink a bit then drive
Drunk drivers beware – 7 days in jail before your bail hearing
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) wants drunk drivers to spend at least 7 days in jail before they can be considered for bail.
The RTMC was established for co-operative and coordinated strategic planning, regulation, facilitation and law enforcement in respect of road traffic matters.

for a lot of other people it may not be. uber or alternate transport is not an option everywhere.
Your attempt at sarcasm does not make any difference to me.lawmakers. who else? although as a child when i looked up "they", it said "men". but within this context, lawmakers.
currently they allow us to drink a bit then drive
Exactly my thoughts also. Some blood tests just disappear or are contaminated. Many charges were also withdrawn due to blood levels within the limits. So what if the officer just suspects you of drinking and driving even if you haven't? 7 days in jail?
It's not like blood tests are quick. Will they be using evidentiary breath analysers? (the roadside machine are not enough).
Why not?
is not an option everywhere
