DStv and Top TV bouquet package uncertainty

Finally! I hope DSTv is ****ting in their pants, thy have been making too much money for what they are offering for too long. I would choose 10 channels at most if it comes down to it.

I think this will end the same as LLU, they will unbundle in the end, but still charge more for it separately than what we currently pay for it bundled. Bringing us back to where we are now.

Not so sure hey. They're going to have to demonstrate that it's more cost effective for consumers to be sold their bouquets, and that means coming clean about their cost price for each channel.

This is going to increase the pricing on individual channels. Its going to cost a lot to get the popular channels and we're all going to beg to get them bundled.

Find someone with a premium account and then you can watch live sport on the ss website?

Last time I tried that my internet service provider wasn't compliant. I think all of that is sorted out now in anycase, so I will look into it again.

Best option imo is to have a basic package (where they can dump all the crap channels),genre based addons,then per channel for premium content.

The act states that suppliers may not require consumers to purchase additional goods or services, or to enter into an additional agreement or transaction unless it can be shown that:

The convenience to the consumer in having those goods or services
bundled outweighs the limitation of the consumer’s right to choice;
The bundling of those goods or services results in economic benefit
for consumers;
Bundled goods or services are available separately and at individual prices

Must all of those bullets be fulfilled or just one of them?

This good news.

Unfortunately I think Multichoce will change their pricing model that it would not be economically viable to select only a few channels.

Surely they would have to demonstrate that the bouquet options are more cost effective, implying that they need to reveal their cost price?

Fat chance this will happen. Wish it would tho. DSTV have stated time and time again, that they provide the other channels as they are forced to take them from the content providers. This is the argument that they will use.
They will simply say, "If we want to get Discovery, we also get Fashion TV (or insert some other kak channel name here), so since we get it regardless, we provide it to our customers too. We don't pay separately for Fashion TV, so we could remove it, but subscribers would pay the same "

End of argument.

So, you will still pay R650 even if you want just things like:

MNET, SS1, SS2, Discovery, National Geographic, MM1, MM2, BBC and BBC branded ones.

they will find a way around it.
eg spread rugby across their 6 supersport channels and charge R100 a channel etc
or just charge exorbitant prices for individual channels
