Not "squash" but delay! Multichoice have no foot to stand on and they know it. At best they can add another year or so depending how many ICASA MoFos they manage to bribe or have already bribed.

They should unbundle them. DSTV likes repeating **** all the time, and some channels (most of the channels on DSTV Compact) are useless, there is only 3 or 4 useful channels on that package.

Dont worry, if they dont unbundle its fine, just wait till Telkom releases their 40Mbps ADSL2+ Lines and 20Mbps, we will use streaming TV and DSTV wont get jack from us.

Dont worry DSTV you just keep increasing those prices, it will hurt your future.

When will DSTV go cable? Its annoying when its raining because DSTV loses signal.

Even if the commision wins, DSTV will just offer unbundled channels at a price that is uneconomical for consumers, and they will be forced to choose the boquet option.

I wish the Consumer Commission would address my complaint (and many others) about ADSL and voice bundling  Telkom appears to be immune.

I dont think so... See this drive is about unbundling packages so that the customer can choose his channels. The only reasons why DStv has so many premium subscribers is because of Supersport 1 which broadcasts Live games and Disney Channel for the kids and the movie channels they offer. The rest of the channels people dont worry to watch and there are many subscribers that only has this bouquet because they like watching the game live.... ect.

That said.... I think this is going to get interesting!:D

Making a company like Multichoice change their business model is like trying to take candy from a 6-foot hung-over gorilla with a bad tooth ache. They are clinging to what they know like the music industry is clinging to it's dying model of talking everyone for everything they can get.

Thing is having had monopoly status for so long is a difficult habit to break & giving the customer what they want is a somewhat foreign concept to someone used to saying 'take it or leave it' for so long.

True story...

I concur. If they can prove their costs to provide the service per channel then they will provide unbundled channels at a cost most of us will shy away from on a per channel basis.

I do agree that there are plenty of channels that I never watch and also feel hard done by that my premium covers that cost, but I'm very wary of what MC will do if they are forced to unbundle. Better the devil you know...

Where are you (legally) going to get content? AFAIK, DSTv has most of the good the conent tied up, which is one of the reasons you can't currently buy/watch any online content from existing services that provide content to other countries.

I also think they'll just make the most wanted channels R100 each, the commission can't do much after that

On the flip side they might get more customers because it might be more affordable.

I dislike Multichoice, I dislike them even more now. Everyone knows the ICASA sells out to the highest bidder. I bet Napsters paid someone really well to get ICASA motivated over the porn channel.

They will never do a complete unbundling of channels. We might eventually get bundles for Sport, Movies, Kids, HD etc, like the rest of the world.

WOW, so if Burger does not understand they should just replace him... he is such an ass.

Anyways, Multichoice, this is a clear message. You can run but you cannot HIDE cfuker...

Even if they don't unbundle the package over some more package options at different price tags.. with less cr@ppy stations included in those packages..

DSTV Premium Mini at R350

Mnet, Supersport 1, Kyknet, Discovery, Movie Channel, Series, Some Kiddie Channels, Some Music Channels. Maybe about 15 channels with no cr@p stations.. Yeah I would go for that..

So now we know why Schalkie injured his knee. Too busy making babies and representing multichoice.

The commission has my full support. DSTV has tried their delaying tactics and it's just a matter of time before they are back on the rack. It took them a long time to nail Telkom, but they've finally made the breakthrough.
