DStv battling commercial pirate streaming operations in South Africa

Thank God I cancelled DSTV decades ago

Something that DStv continuously fail to grasp is that people cancelled it because it became a bad value proposition. If they miraculously manage to wipe out all pirates overnight and DStv was the only option for sport then people will still not come back to them. They'll then just get used to living without sport as most people do now anyway and watch Netflix for a fraction of the DStv price.

I will NEVER go back, no matter what

Go away DSTV

Steve Hofmeyr and his supporters destroy their DStv products

Piracy has been around since the 1980's and is bigger and more advanced than ever.
It will never be stopped. But, OK DSTV you go boy!

Actually me old man told me they did it in the 1960s already, with those reel-to-reel tape recorders. Recorded them songs directly off the wireless. I also believe Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak did it too

Just came across this: https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/202...uninstall-pirate-iptv-app-on-android-devices/

In an unprecedented move an Argentine courthas ordered Google to “uninstall” pirate IPTV service MagisTV App on Android devices, reports Torrent Freak.

In addition to blocking 69 domains associated with the service, the court has ordered Google to “immediately uninstall” Magis TV apps from Android devices. This measure targets apps that users have sideloaded, as MagisTV is not available on the official Google Play store.

“What was achieved is an unprecedented court order, which is in the process of being analyzed by Google – we understand that they cannot deny it – which is to uninstall, through the Android operating system update, the application on all devices that have an IP address in Argentina,” Musso said.

Another schithole that doesn't respect people's rights. Pretty much like Russia fining Google.

Hopefully it pisses of the right people and they build a truly open source google TV.
You know, with my XIAOMI media box having died, I am kind of looking at DIY with one of the SoC chipsets that I have access to.
Just need a bit of cash to roll a 6 layer printed circuit board and a solderpaste stencil without breaking the bank.

Users should just make sure their devices have not an IP address linked to Argentina.

I'm not so sure. I used to watch rugby all day Saturday but now I got so used to not watching it for the longest time that I forgot about it and haven't watched a Stormers game for a few years. Now it's only the big games and with the freebie now on my doorstep since the last world cup (it proved popular at the restaurant so she's kept it up), I only watch the Bok or Scotland games because I've no real interest in Stormers or URC or whatever it is now (was Super rugby when I last watched).

My Saturday now is Scottish football. I've got a subscription to my teams TV channel and I watch their games with a few beers. Club and provincial rugby has gone from my life and I can't see it coming back. I'm sure many people feel the same way. And that's down to DStv.

Sport, is not all it is cracked up to be. Years ago, I would watch every thing.

These days, - too late at night - not bothered, too early in thr morning - bugger it, not going to wake up. On during work, could not br bothered to switch on the Mi-Box, connect it to the "spare monitor", and connect the computer speakers. Just too much effort. If I am home, and got nothing to do, and I remember that there is something on, then I will watch. Only the Wife watches stuff regularly.

These days, I couldn't be bothered. DSTV have lost any value proposition here 20 plus years ago.

The Wife is happy with Netflix and YouTube, and their endless drivel.

When are we getting a MyBB TV Sport Package? Must be in cards with all these "click bait" articles
Will never happen. DSTV is just too damn stubborn to give people a choice
