DStv Boxoffice Online now open to all

Does the online version also charge R25 per movie?
How is the quality? HD or SD?

EDIT: Nevermind, checked their site.
New releases are R30, and something like animation from last year is R10. SD and Stereo sound only.

But what is nice is the 48 hour rental period only starts when you click "watch now", not when the download starts.

Its a start.. but R30 for a new release online in SD and Stereo is too expensive... R15 would be a more acceptable price.

I think a subscription service would be better for the older stuff and series, in the same vein as netflix\hulu.

R15 for a latest box office release @ 720p is fair.

Yes, it is a start but I think they're just testing the water for now. If they have a good response expect to see 720p titles at R60 each

Any idea what the size of the downloaded movie would be? The usual 750 MB?

Is jy mal? AFAIK Netflix is 8.99usd p/m for... wait... wait... EVERYTHING on it.

Local video store is R15 for a new release. 2 minute walk, so I think I will stay with them.
Box Office convenience factor? Yes, but not at that price! Already pay DSTV enough for repeats and their own promotional garbage

So you pay R30 for the movie and then still pay for the data? :erm:

Uncapped is the way to go...

Sounds good, I like the idea of being able to 'rent' movies online (finally!), but I'll wait a bit. Maybe if we all boycott this now they'll decrease the price ;) <optimism at its best>

I would need 720p and surround sound before I use this.

Nice to see this service in SA... but I would not use this company if they paid ME to watch the movies.

R30! You got to be kidding. For less than R30 I can hire a new movie and 2 old movies from our local video store.
Make it under R15 and I'll gladly hire a couple each weekend. Even better go on a par with Netflix and charge a monthly subscription of under R80pm for as many movies as you want.

Cool way for DSTV to double dip. Pay your DSTV premium fee and you can pay again to watch the same junk.

At least they could give free access to premium users, or perhaps a discount. But no, not in SA.
