Hi guys

I recently moved homes and the new place the guy just handed me the single LNG (long story but i think he just removed the twin and gave me the single from his new place) anyway so i bought one of those DSTV Smart LNB LMX501 (3 SATCR 1 Legacy) and i used the one legacy connected to my HD decoder to try and align it and the Signal quality/ strength was horrible. No matter what i did. After not getting any better results, i gave up just connected the decoders up (placed the HDPVR on one of the SATCR ports ) figured i can watch with that crappy quality till i can get an installer out.
I then checked the quality and signal on the HD PVR and its at 98 /90 but the HD is still bad (pics below)

picture works fine on all channels i tried just find this odd.

Any DSTV installation boffins know the reasons for this?

Lots of variables (user bands, transponder frequency of channel viewed, cable condition etc). To little info to give you a definitive answer...

will this help

put both on 309 Disney Junior, Cant comment on cable condition, but i did try swapping when i was seting it and the result was the same

BTW this is just my curiosity why the decoders pick up differently, I am not having any issues
while i have your attention would it be better on the HD to use the legacy port or Sartcr or no difference?

I wouldn't worry about. I don't put much stock in the the explora's ability to accurately measure signal strength. Signal strength as a percentage is ultimately meaningless anyway. It might just work on a different arbitrary scale to other decoders. HDPVR s are much easier to please than any other decoder in my experience. They always show a higher strength and quality than other decoders.

If its working why are you worrying? Leave it as is.

When I came back from holiday last Sunday, none of the decoders were working, all were displaying "No signal, bad installation, etc". When I checked the signal strengths all three had 0% in both fields, It was the first time EVER that I looked at those values.

I got a ladder and felt if all cables were still connected properly to the SLNB, and all three were slightly loose. I tightened them, got down off the ladder and went to check on the Explora in the lounge first. The values were something like 30%, but when I exited the settings page, the feed quality was pristine. All of them are still decoding with zero issues so why wold I care about those measurements.

edit, only afterwards did I hear how hectic the winds in CT were for the previous few days!

That Smart LNB comes with termination caps that screw onto the connection points. Did you keep those on, on the connections you are not using? It's a must AFAIK.

yep left it on there was a warning on the LNB box to ensure unused uni cable ports are terminated
