Dstv hd tv tuner card solution?

Hi guys, does anyone know of a TV-tuner card (or setup) that could serve instead of a DSTV HD PVR... I would rather spend the money on my media centre PC, than DSTV's **** hardware.

Else if u know of any setup to record HD from DSTV on my media centre PC?

Please, dont double post across subforums... its somewhat annoying.

You will need an HDPVR to receive the HD Signal from MC, you will then need to strip the HDCP signal from the HDMI signal.

yeah im also very interested in this.ive been recording tv for about 5 years now. originally with an old 320x240 R200 tv card These days i make my vids by recording through my dvd player but the quality is still blurry in too many vids. it would be interesting to know how much it would all be to get the hd capping off to start.i think you have to get past some protection aswell?

You're looking at R3800 for the HDPVR,
Plus minimum R1k I reckon for a capture card that can handle the HD Stream,
Plus whatever the descrambler costs...

Plus a way to integrate that HDPVR into your mediacenter.

So my guess after much messing around you're probably looking at about R7k to record the HD Dstv signal.

Sat TV card + Irdeto2 CAM + Pre V.5.0 DStv Smartcard + call MC to activate MntHD on Pre v.5.0 smartcard. Yes, I do find quite many similar threads in the TV catagory nowadays.

The I2 CAM was very expensive when I priced it last. Something around R3000+.

@BLIXEMPIE - how easily available are those smart cards? I probably have one in my old dual view - but what if it breaks in a few months.

I'm thinking this is a near future plan for me. Also, how many sources would you be able to access at one time, e.g. record two, watch one OR only two OR only one.

Tried it that way but for activating the smart card for MntHD DSTV requested the decoder number from the HD-PVR. They told me it's not possible without. Must I buy a HD-PVR just to get the activation of the MntHD channel on my smart card or is there any other solution?
