Hi Everyone,

Quick back story: My father-in-law has a Samsung TV on which he watches DStv and Netflix. The TV sound has always been shocking and when watching Dstv, the TV volume needs to be on like 70 and DStv volume halfway, but when watching Netflix, having the volume on 10 is too loud. He bought a Hisense Sound Bar for better sound quality, and now I am tasked with setting everything up bearing in mind that the man doesn't want to have to change modes/sources, nor does he want to use the tiny remote that came with the soundbar

TV ports
  • HDMI (x2)
  • HDMI Arc
  • Optical
  • AV (3.5mm jack)
Sound source options/settings on the TV
  • HDMI
  • Optical
  • TV Speakers
Soundbar ports
  • HDMI Arc
  • Coaxial
  • Optical
  • USB
  • Line In

Current Setup
Soundbar [HDMI Arc] -> TV [HDMI Arc]
DStv [HDMI] -> TV [HDMI]
TV sound (Netflix) plays through the soundbar when the soundbar is on HDMI mode and the TV sound source is set to HDMI.

Can someone advise me on the best way to have the DStv and Netflix sound playing through the soundbar? and if the DStv volume can be controlled by the Samsung remote as well -- that would just be a bonus!

Thank you

Jinne tables and all the necessary info. Nice first post.

You lost me at Samsung tv and Hisense soundbar for better sound quality. OOf This is a big ask.

Anyways i am only here to rain on your parade, happy Saturday. Goodluck coz you will need, Cheers

You actually need a soundbar with 2 HDMI connectors. 1 for DSTv and the other to the TV.

You can try DSTV optical to the Soundbar optical and then connect DSTV HDMI to TV

Thank you, I'll give this a try when he isn't watching TV - I don't want to be told that I'm "fiddling"

Optical cable from TV to soundbar and TV sound source set to optical is all that's needed..

This will let all sound from TV play through soundbar, irrespective of whether it's DStv or netflix or whatever else..

Aim tv. Hisense sound bar. Hdmi arc connection. Mibox one of 4 hdmi sources. Everything plays through sound bar.

But I suspect the mibox helps the sound bar get recognized by the tv. Until the mibox goes on it displays a message which i can’t remember.

Quick question.. So I have an issue on my skyworth Sud9300f where everytime I want to switch from TV to ps4 I have to select source and then HDMI 1..on my Samsung the moment I switch ps4 it switches on automatically. Any idea how to resolve this as it's a bit of a pain?

‘Arc device connect’

It was LoadShedding when I posted.

I have to do the manual switch for all my sources.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.
That's what I thought initially but I did try that, and once more after reading your response.
TV sound source is set to optical, optical cable from soundbar to TV, soundbar mode set to optical and DStv is connected to the TV with HDMI. I can hear the menu button sounds when I scroll and obviously when I play something on Netflix BUT no sound from DStv...

Thank you! I plugged DStv into HDMI Arc and bobs your uncle! Thank you again.
