DStv cuts off Hisense and Samsung TV apps — offers customers free Streamas

MultiChoice recently cut off some Hisense and Samsung television owners from using their TV's DStv streaming app. To make up for it, these customers received vouchers for a free DStv Streama.

The broadcaster told MyBroadband that all affected customers would receive a Takealot discount voucher redeemable via the MyDStv SA app.

My chromecast with google tv running android 12 seems to also be affected, the app is still working as i can choose whether to update now or later, when i choose update now it goes to the app page and says the device is no longer compatible, choosing later allows the app to continue working but i suspect it will stop working soon.

Now I understand the Chromecast wide outage during the past couple of weeks...seems they will eventually force everyone to use their kak Streama nonsense instead of the current range of streaming solutions!

I also noted the same with my Chromecast the past days...

To be honest, there is nothing more to complain about from those who were affected, unless I am missing something, should be back to happy times now, no?

Not when you have a minimalist mindset.

So now you no longer have the convenience of having one remote to access all your apps.
You now need the TV remote to access other services and then change the input to the streaming device.
Then take that remote to do the DSht you want. Then grab the TV remote again to use the other apps (which will probably work better on the native TV than on the streama kuk.

Oh, did I forget to mention that you now need another network point/cable for the streama itself. So more hidden costs.

It is a shitty move from a shitty company.

this isn't going to end well once apple/google find out they will remove the DStv app from their app stores

I think they plan to only offer streaming through their hardware to have complete control over shared accounts. I won't be surprised if they later block people from connecting their laptops via Hdmi, like what Peacock does. Good thing I don't have any need for Dstv the sports/Hbo content on showmax is sufficient for me and the F1tv app.

Yes it looks like they are going two distinct routes: Dish only or streaming only. For example, the voucher is only offered to those on the streaming only package. So people living in the same household but who use the decoder in one room and streaming in the other will be stopped. They'll have to set up Xtraview.

Is anyone having problems with dstv now.?was watching a programmer on my tablet and it just signed me out.. It asked me to sign back in and then told me my details are wrong.. Same thing with tv code
