DStv plans to become a one-stop-shop with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube

It makes sense for DStv to become a one-stop-shop where you pay one bill and get access to all streaming content, including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube.

This is the view of MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela, who was speaking to Business Day TV about the company’s agreements with over-the-top (OTT) media services.

It makes sense for DStv to become a one-stop-shop where you pay one bill and get access to all streaming content, including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube.

“We are reaching out to them and have some agreement for people to come to us and pay us once and get access to all the content providers,” said Mawela

“We are moving in that direction because it makes sense for us to be a one-stop-shop where you pay one bill where you can get all the content available out there.”

Cool. So seeing as we already pay R1000 for premium, now we get Netflix included in the price?

So YouTube? How will that work exactly?

Hoo-boy. Here we go again. Their grubby paws are beginning overreach and $$$ signs are their incentive.

Give these critters a chance and alternative streaming platforms will only be available through Multichoice. Give them a little more leeway and the price will quadruple while viewing pleasure gets throttled to 480p.

Multichoice in 30odd years chose to not develop sufficient local content or an industry, so what exactly do they add to my individual subscriptions?

I don't see them being in a position to offer Hulu, but best of luck to them. I currently enjoy it more than Netflix at the moment.

The fact that I have Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and a lot of other services (like Disney+ and ESPN+) means I don't want or need DSTV.

All this probably will end up being is, DStv will offer the apps through their menu on the decoder, just as they are doing with Showmax.. Doubt there will be anything included as part of the premium price to access these services..

“We are reaching out to them and have some agreement for people to come to us and pay us once and get access to all the content providers,” said Mawela.
Let me guess, this will be branded as an UltraPremiumPremium service and you can only subscribe if you are already a PremiumPremium customer with all the added hidden fees.
