DStv Premium freefall continues

Mybroadband’s weekly tirade against DSTV..
Dropping “cable” TV is not unique to SA! Signing up to Netflix is not unique to SA!
This is happening all around the world because there are options where previously there weren’t.
Deal with it.

I was a bit grumpy about the continual price increases for my Premium and decoder fragility but kind of lived with it until I tried to get my DSTV streaming up and running. Chat and messaging was so full of irritating obfuscation (I suspect my account was hijacked) that I eventually saw red and cancelled. Then I started getting calls about the why's and wherefores but too late she cried. Happy to be done with it, hope the Frogs know they have bought a poisoned chalice. DSTV execs will no doubt do fine, workers will need to suck up to a French baas. Lekker.

These Frogs have a good business history.
But so far from what I heard it looks like their only interest is to use the platform for French content in ROA (Rest Of Africa). They don't seem interested in changing anything here except maybe with how Showmax operates.

So still a ticking time bomb weirdly, unless they're using a learn-first approach.

Why would you pay R930 for "Premium" when they still have unskippable ads? Are people just gullible like oh but it's good for economy to watch ads.

Thanks but no thanks.

They also include access to "Catch Up" for most popular content which was ad free for many years, but then they started adding a few ads at the start or when you pause. No idea what goes on with that now but doubt it improved.

They are sqandering their hold on sport rights. It can catapult them into a new role but they are probably too greedy and stupid to see.

MT launched SM to fight Netflix, it wasn't enough and MT insisted on passing on high fees for exclusive sports broadcasting rights to subscribers... it's not their subscribers who want them to have "exclusive rights", so, why pay for it, and, the subs didn't, and the obvious loser is, no drumroll, MT. Self-inflicted harm. Their insistence on justifying their fees is like trying to force people to pay high fees for slow ADSL in 2024 because of how exclusive and expensive it could be, regardless of the obviously better available options.
They're still in the monopoly mindset of protecting it at all costs not realising that they're losing it even if people have to go without it.

New this week.
Sign of the times.... R70 less p/m than the shelf price

Been there for a while. Was available from the website until they revamped it but seems they've readded it.

The difference is that most other digital satellite services around the world are much more competitively priced averaging around US$30 per month and lower and including much more channels and perks than what DSTV subscribers are getting for twice that price.
Most other Digital Satellite providers also bundle free Internet into their packages or free Telephony services in order to sweeten the deal (very often trip play services)....
DSTV's monopoly offerings have been bland and throttled for years now.
There is a very good reason to lambast them.

EDIT: Oh I just noticed your one post count.... welcome on board Mr. DSTV Board member...

I have actually been waiting for Mybb to start slipping the word kiss or kissing into every single article and headline simply to appease the masses.
Not far from wrong. Kissing is becoming the norm here.

Thanks for the welcome.

I understand that things are different in other parts of the world. And certainly in places that have more customer centric approach to business!

I have not had a DSTV account for at least 10 years. I just don’t watch much TV. However I do have Netflix and a F1 subscription to give me something to watch. I also watch YouTube videos and download movies/series that I like.

They should have sold the company when there were offers. Now its a worthless company that will close down.
