DStv prices vs inflation in South Africa

Remove the repeats and the increase is probably far above inflation. Repeats make it look like people are getting more for the increase. Not so.

I would have thought that the quality of your content offering and service would be the driving factor when deciding on price increases! Why increase your prices because of inflation while your subscriber base is shrinking?
Go figure.

I know it's a minority view on this forum, but I actually appreciate the repeats. Means I can catch up with a later airing.

Besides, it's not so much DStv that decide and do the repeats but rather the channel owners who select what goes out on the satellite for this region.

It is not like there isn't any value; it is just inflated. But so is everything else locally especially if we keep on rewarding it.

Imagine we never formed TAG (telkom action group) and just kept on paying telkom and said ISPs eating up their nonsense. Would you really want to go back to having account for downloading and another account just for gaming/latency sensitive traffic? or don't use the internet so much or you will have to use less while you are in your naughty window...

Inflation based increase is only applicable if you assume a constant subscriber base.

If your subscriber numbers have increased AND your price increases, that's just milking it.

Ergo, this is paid-for BS DSTV partner content.

But since they're losing customers to other platforms, they're about to learn the economies of scale lesson the hard way...

You do? Because I can literally turn on my television at any point in time and watch whatever I want, whenever I want, as how many times I want, without a schedule, at any point, wherever.

So I'm not sure how your appreciation for the repeat of Season 3 of Stargate for the 13983674th time, just so it fits into a made-up schedule you need to adhere to so you don't miss it, is warranted.

But you know this, I know this, everyone knows this. I'm just wondering how much they paid you to say this ;)

I also don't see how inflation in South Africa has any bearing on a company run from the UAE. Perhaps staff costs? Definitely not satellite rental or content they pay for, as content has become cheaper to source the last 5 years thanks to VOD and the satellite should/has been a fixed cost?

Anyway. I'm dumb

I'm just wondering why nobody complains about the repeats on Netflix.

Anyway the price increase is more like 2.38% for Compact+ if you rightfully count the access fee.

Why would you still have DSTV. Sport the answer will be. That was in 2002 then, I left in 2003. 18 Years later it's still the answer. Unreal. Wonder how much money DSTV have lost if they only provided a service just for sport. 10 -12 channels only sport x Y = ? DSTV is so backwards still, they somehow survive. I understand that most of SA can't stream, are you kidding me? So snails pace is the top speed. Unreal.

Absolutely. If you add all the OLD movies too the value for money has dropped considerably. Smoke and mirrors trying to appease the animals.
