Disable latest update, it kills the HDD in the unit!!! I have just learnt the hard way!!! I had a forced firmaware update 2night, now the unit no longer see's the HDD, basically say it has failed! Called the local call centre and they admited to the problem, at least I have insurance on the unit! Will be taking it in 2mrw, but I know there is no stock on the 1st edition PVR, so let's see what happens.

I'd be so ticked if I lost my recordings ......... man, talk about the suck.

Wait till 2mrw, I was calm and collected on the phone to the call centre (wife was standing behind me) but 2mrw when I walk into the DSTC service centre with a boked decoder (due to their cock up the bumper!) heads had better duck!

WTF???

You would think they test the firmware updates thoroughly before they send it out to all their subscribers.

EPIC FAIL

Apart from unplugging it how do you prevent it from updating?

AFAIK there haven't been any recent updates for the SDPVR, were you not trying to update your smart card for Xtraview?

Nope was not trying to update for Xtraview. I took the unit in this morning and half an hour later no questions asked as was back home with another unit. Thank goodness for protection plan. This is the 3rd PVR I have had now, the 1st one was faulty out the box on day one, the 2nd lasted 3 years and 2 months. Let's hope this unit lasts longer, but at least they have stock for swap outs.

While I was waiting another customers bought in their PVR's all with the same problem, so I was no the only one.

Lol... and I bought my series 1 Tivo second hand (prolly more than 3 years old) and kept it for 3 years and sold it on recently... still going strong and light years ahead of anything multichoice has attempted.

when was the update released and has multichoice taken it off their waves? since it is their fault?

I am not going to be very impressed if my dstv decoder gets broken by a firmware upgrade cause there are a few programs i would REALLy like to watch
