DStv declares war on piracy

Content piracy remains rife in South Africa because consumers don't see it as a crime, and circumventing cybersecurity measures is easy for pirates.

This is the view of Irdeto broadcast cybersecurity and anti-piracy director Frikkie Jonker.

I wanted to say this- Frikkie is one of those typical dudes that works for MonoChoice. He's not a contractor, so he's lucky. But these guys think their encryption algorithms are the holy grail of all that is information security. They've been handed their ass by smart people, people much smarter than I am, many times over the decades. Their stuff always gets hacked.

So all they can do is get on their soapbox every few days and announce how they are the "authority" on piracy and talk down to us like a school principal about us torrenting stuff we want to watch because streaming services don't have certain shows.

MonoChoice, and all it's detail, stuck in 1986, they still think they can tell us what we can and cannot do, and use their legal muscle to lock people up for even taking the covers off their stupid decoders. F0k jou Irdeto, jou ma se p**s. F0kof off back to the Netherlands where you belong you are not welcome here.

Can this stupid sale just go through now, the noise Multichoice is making is really annoying. From my point of view this "anti piracy campaign" is to somehow prop up IRDETO's "value" to sell services to Canal+ once they have jumped from their sinking ship.

MC must get it in their heads that through their monopoly, greed and failing to keep up with the times they have become irrelevant. Empty vessels make the most noise... and they sure are making a racket lately.
