DStv standalone streaming launched in South Africa

I think there's ample information as to why people cancel DSTV, taking their R820 towards an uncapped fibre connection and a Netflix/etc sub.

With this info available, why even consider charging the same for a streaming only DStv service?

Because: I/They live in my castle far removed from reality?

Maybe blame the cost of HBO, Showtime and sports rights.

I'm no lover of DStv but there are reasons that Netflix doesn't have that content.

Quality? 720P or 4k?

1080i upscaled to 1080p then compressed to 600p. Their 720p is more like 500p and their 360p is more like sub 240p.

Even if it's on-demand with no ads, the pricing is atrocious!

Make it R500 max for full premium and toss all those other half arsed packages out the window.
Their overall subs will go up..

Subscriber numbers would go up, but what matters is whether they would make a higher profit or not.
