This is a post from the DStv forum:

I see BET has launched in Mozambique now?Kidsco too??
(As well as other channels we dont get here....
Also, a new bouquet launched in Mozambique this week, $10 for 25 channels?Thats R83,nearly 1/2 the price of the cheapest bouquet being offered in South Africa?
Where's our value for money??!!
Why is it that Travel Channel,E!,Nickelodeon and Boomerang have been added to their lower bouquets, but not in RSA?
Why are countries getting new channels but your largest subscriber base gets nothing?? And thats 2,3 million of us here in SA?
Really, time and time again it feels we are being bled dry, and THIS just proves it!

DStv Access
06 July 2009
DStv introduces Africa’s most accessible pay television bouquet.

Mozambique, Maputo: MultiChoice Africa, operator of Africa’s innovative pay TV platform DStv, today announced the launch of the continent’s most accessible pay television package, DStv Access.

Priced at only US$10 per month, DStv Access will offer 25 quality channels of family entertainment at the lowest cost in the market. DStv Access will be launched in Mozambique on 1 July 2009. The new package is a significant milestone in making premium pay television an
everyday reality for homes in Africa and demonstrates MultiChoice Africa’s commitment to creating a vibrant and exciting pay television industry in Africa.

MultiChoice Mozambique General Manager Ms Samira Chicalia commented: “We are responding to the needs of a broader television viewing market. The DStv pay television service is one of the most cost effective options for family entertainment. Since many people in Mozambique, as with the rest of the world, are looking at their budgets more tightly, we believe that this new bouquet will open up new avenues for both our business and television viewers.
Our commitment remains focused on providing exceptional customer services to DStv subscribers to ensure that they have access to the finest quality premium content; local and international channels on carefully selected bouquets, designed to meet the viewing needs of the whole family, while ensuring flexible pricing options.”

DStv Access subscribers will have an extensive choice of family entertainment, combining general entertainment, movies, documentaries, news, children’s programming, music, religion and sport. Among other channels, DStv Access features BBC World, Aljazeera, National Geographic Wild, Fashion TV, Magic World and CNBC Africa.

Concluding, MultiChoice Africa President Eben Greyling said: “MultiChoice Africa strives to always generate new and better ways of doing things. We are continuously focused on achieving cost effectiveness and efficiency underpinned by a sustainable business model that subscribers can rely on.

Providing our subscribers with a breadth of choices is key to our bouquet and channel offerings, and we strive to bring variety rather than just focusing on specific genres such as sport. Our success has been built on listening to what our subscribers want, delivering world-class television channels, developing local content and supporting DStv with excellent customer service. DStv Access is proof of that.”

There is also good news for DStv Compact and DStv Family subscribers. On the DStv Compact bouquet, E! Entertainment and children’s channels Boomerang and Nickelodeon, the Travel Channel and the Islam Channel will be added, while the DStv Family bouquet will see the addition of E! short answer... because the South African consumer is a sheep who will pay any price, and the Retailers in South Africa are crooks who will charge the highest price. They have no idea how the laws of supply and demand work or how the public can go about instituting consumer action. DSTV charges those prices because people are willing to pay them. If more people cancelled their DSTV cos they are charging too much, then they would be forced to lower their prices. But, nooooo... just charge it to the credit card... you can't take away my DSTV.... frikkin sheep.

i remember earlier this year a member wanted to boycot DSTV by having as many people as possible cutting their subscription for a month or two... what ever happend with that ? it obviously didn't work i guess, maybe a broader more organised boycott could do the trick, problem is who will initiate such a undertaking...and would people be willing to actually giving up their dstv for a month or two ?

It didn't work cos nobody was interested in giving up their DSTV for a month. That is how DSTV can charge such ridiculous prices. Nobody is willing to sacrifice a little in order to improve things.

Anyway, doesn't bother me. I'm not paying a stupid tax...

Whilst you're on the DStv Africa site, select Mozambique, and then check out the channels they have in the DStv Bue bouquet, which is mostly Portuguese channels, but I see they've got AXN, FOX and FOX Life included! Maybe the Porra versions of the channels?, but still.
