DStv's biggest threat is not Netflix or Disney — TV broadcast expert

While international streaming services are increasingly interested in acquiring the rights to show many popular live sports, they aren't the biggest threat to DStv's dominance in live sports broadcasting in South Africa.

That is according to seasoned television broadcasting journalist Thinus Ferreira from TV with Thinus, who believes the major danger for DStv lies within the country's borders — local regulation.

I don't know many young people with their own DSTV subscriptions. The only ones that do, have it because their parents do.

Great move to open up sport broadcasts because DSTV's exclusive rights is killing sport. When kids don't watch sport they don't play it. And sport survives on lots of lower leagues.
And is funded by people watching it on tv.
