hi all,

just a quick one, can I put 2 different VGA cards (possibly one or both of them non-SLI) on a gigabyte dual PCIe x16 SLI board (945P-DG), provided I don't want the SLI functionality?

I don't really understand your question.

All PCI-Express cards from NVIDIA are SLI-compatible. So how can the cards be non-SLI?

They can only not be SLI-compatible if they are AGP cards but then they wouldn't work on your mobo.

Why don't you want SLI anyway?

Dominic the Intel 945 chipset isnt SLI compatible, it can only asssign 4 lanes to the second card. only the Intel Nvidia chipset will support SLI. the only reason for the second Pci-x is to run a quad monitor setup.

there are lots of PCIe cards which are non-SLI compatible, all the cheap ones for example

not that I don't want SLI, I am just not willing to pay high premium for it, I need 4 monitors and VIVO, the rest is not too relevant to me, I don't mind paying for one 6600GT and one 6600LE, but two 6600GT are little over my budget

ok, so can anyone confirm or deny (for certain), can I put 6600GT VIVO and 6600LE on one 945P-DG gigabyte board and happily have up to 4 monitos (or 3 monitors and a TV) connected to that box, for one very large desktop?

Yes, you can.

isn't SLI a direct link between the two cards? why does it depend on the chipset?

just buy two... geez...
hmmm @ R1371 !!! are you the salesman :D

why not just use 2 x 6600LE at like R850, I bet they have better performance

i thought it was for WORK purposes, why the heck you need performance for work?

LOL, no, it is for home, I chat on one screen, browse forums on another, watch tv on the third and watch my downloads on the fourth :D

all that for 4 screens? just get a software to allow you to have 4 desktops at once... a bit cheaper than having a cockpit in your PC table. ;)
