Dual sim, data question

Hey
i got an s8 dual sim variant
Im currently on vodacom, i havent had any issues with their calls etc, but you can buy data through axxess with MTN a lot cheaper than vodacom.
So my question is, can i just get an MTN sim card, put data on that one and use that card soley for data, my vodacom for everything else?
Anyone who has experience with dual sim would be appreciated!

Yes, you set one SIM for your calls and sending SMSs (on my CAT it's 2G only) and one for your data (that is 2g/3g/4g.aka.LTE). Both SIMs can receive SMSs and it displays the network the SMS is from.

You need set the mtn SIM as the main data carrier
I do it on my wife's phone

I think the mtn sim needs to be a contract sim...
