Let me know if I am wrong here, but this is how I understand it:

All 3G or HSDPA phones can transfer data whilst on a phone call (as long as the phone is connected to the 3G network obviously) but not on GPRS/EDGE.
This is where DTM comes in. With a DTM phone it can also transfer data whilst on a call (when the phone is connected to the 2G (GPRS/EDGE) network).

Is this right?

Makes sense

I have 2 phones

1. Moto V3 Razor
2. Nokia N91

The Moto can receive calls while I'm connected the N91 doesn't mabe check the specs between thos two phones. That should give you a clue.

This is by far the best solution. I did the same until I got a HSDPA card. The problem with my (then) Nokia 6680 was you'd get a call in the middle of a 20MB download (usually at the 19.5MB mark) and you'd answer it only to find that you'd pulled the DKU-2 cable out of the phone! Even better to find its a wrong number and you have a corrupt file missing just 500K of data!
