I need dual sim, and I'm currently on a Sony Z2. Don't want to step down too much, so looking at midrange ~R5000.

The two options that standout are Wileyfox Storm R4500 vs Moto X Play. R6000

Storm vs X vs Z2

Ram: 3 vs 2 vs 3
Battery: 2500 vs 3600 vs 3200

I'm leaning toward the X because of battery life, but the RAM concerns me. Any experiences with either

Why are you only worried about the RAM not the ARM that controls it all :). If I remember correctly the wileyfox and moto have a snapdragon 600 series chipset which are equivalent to what was running in a 3 year old S4. While the Z2 had the 801 which was a newer chipset.
Mid range phone specs will always trail about two/three years behind the top tier phones by the looks of it.

I've had the Moto X Play for a few months now and am pretty happy with it. For me, battery life is much more of a concern than multi-tasking and the Play really delivers on that front. I don't think the Storm would fare nearly as well. I don't notice many limitations with the 2gb of RAM and apps I've recently used are very rarely closed down. Plus, the near stock Android experience (and I'm already on Marshmallow) and the greater ease of handling are great.

You will notice a bit of a performance downgrade compared to the Snapdragon 801, depending on what kind of user you are, but in general use the phone is fine and doesn't struggle with anything I put it through.

Oh, and the dual sim works easily and well.

Went with an HTC one ME. Definitely a step down in processing power, build quality. But the camera is better, infrared, fingerprint sensor, 3gb ram, "boom" sound.
