Looks like KZN plans on divorcing Africa

I'd half-forgotten that boundary. Wikipedia shows the KZN portion of the plate boundary as being mostly dormant:

Edit: More recent data show different sub-plates: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lwandle_Plate

I think Tito's budget speech has awakened it from its dormant state

Less worrying than the other image but now I'm confused on what caused the tremor

Was a deep quake, 10kms or greater down, can happen anywhere I think. And if I recall, the Drakensberg is a volcanic range although there is no volcano so probably some remnants of violent magmic activity deep down.

10k is shallow, 300-700km is deep when it comes to quakes.

Southern Drankensberg. There was two rumbles a few seconds apart. Shock pretty good. Thought the milk tanker had left the road and gone through my house.

Was busy mounting a new projector and trying to align it straight , got off the ladder to admire it and all of a sudden the projector starts going wonky :D

Felt it at my work/shop in Hillcrest. It was very steady and comfortable, nothing violent at all.

What I did notice peculiarity was a section of our "suspended" rafter ceilings was rattling a good 20 - 40 minutes (I was too busy to recognize the difference) before the actual height of the tremor passed. So in other words there was definitely a mild consistent leading up to the main shake at least 20 minutes before, and continued a few moments thereafter and simply ended.

That was the first time any rattling effect like that happened.

Remember the tremor back in 1985 made me fall off the Couch. turned out to be Millions of Tons built-up silt falling down into a chasm off the Durban coastline.

Thats a very antisemetic statement to make ..........

I see zero relation to jews but hey report me to the sahrc, jews tend to get extra mileage.

I'll get Grant to bail me out but I'm gonna be nervous when it comes back to payback favours :giggle:
