Electric 4x4 drives from Netherlands to South Africa

A Dutch couple has travelled from the Netherlands to South Africa in an electric car they primarily recharged using solar power.

Maarten van Pel and Renske Cox, founders of 4x4 Electric, set off from Amsterdam in a modified Skoda Enyaq iv80 SUV on 4 November 2022 and entered South Africa on 8 July 2023.

Using 60 x 180 Watt panels.
WTF did they put so many panels?

Just remember
sixty 180Wp panels stored in six purpose-built drawers. When laid out on the ground, they cover a surface area of 60m².

This is replacing petrol...

I think people have literally done it faster on a bicycle.

Mainly because you can blend in and not attract crowds.

This guy took 10 months just to cycle Africa.

I met another cyclist called Guus Van Veen who cycled down the East coast and then tried to go up the West coast. In Cameroon he couldn't get a visa for Nigeria and flew home.
