Heya, taking a shot in the dark here...
Do we have any forumites here that might have done a successfull Firmware upgrade on their Samsung DVD players (DVD-HD860).

Its one of those nice DVD players that supports pretty much everything - All regions, Divx / Xvid encoded files, MP3's etc.

Its always worked perfectly for me, however I noticed lately with newer versions of Xvid / Divx encoded movies, it doesnt work... So it seems I might need a newer version of Firmware installed...

The samsung support site really sucked, but after successfull forum trolling, I managed to find a link with firmware updates. However, the problem that I am scared of, is some people reported their players no longer operated as a multi-region player after the update.

So its either bite the bullet and go for the upgrade (and take the risk of loosing multi-region support)... or hope I maintain it afterwards... there is a hack, but it only works on certain versions.

Anyone here done a successfull upgrade ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

thanks !

I had a samsung dvd player a while back and it was multi region even though it had the region 2 logo on the back. After i reset it to factory settings it was locked to region 2. After about 10 minutes after googling i found the sequence buttons to push on the remote to make it region 0 (multi-region).

if you are scared try find the correct multiregion procedure for your model before flashing.

Thanks for the reply Gambit :)

Yes I found the sequence of buttons to press on the remote to unlock it, its just some versions of the Firmware doesnt allow it.

Some guys posted it worked for them, other guys claimed it did'nt work on their updated firmware revisions.

I am not aware of any way to backup my current firmware version, so its one of those tackle the bull by the horns situations and just DO it...

Bleh oh well.

if you are watching divx movies then I don't think you need to worry about wanting to watch region 1 dvds :) It's nice to have the option but what are the chances you really need this anymore.
