Is the SONY any good ?

I replaced My 250GB LG RH1999H with the 400GB LG RH299H because the first one refused to write anymore discs after 13 Months.
Now the bloody new one wont write in fast mode anymore after 2 Months ( keeps giving a disc error, no matter what make of blank DVD you insert for fast mode)

Im sick of LG

My LG RH299H is about 6 months old. Yesterday I find it doesn't read ordinary (rented from the video store) dvd's anymore. Just "hangs" for a while then gives a disk error :(

Thats what happened to both of my LG's. Afte a little while it will start not accepting any discs but CD's.

Ive had the SONY for a week or so now, and its great.
Build quality seems way better than the LG's and its VERY quite.
I could hear the LG's running anywhere in my room, the SONY I cannot hear run at all.

The SONY seems to write a bit slower, but the quality of the write seems perfect.

The net is full of complaints of LG recorders stopping to accept DVD's.

After having no less than 5 different types of LG products break on me, and not one of my Panasonics or Sony's, No more LG products for me thanks

LG v Sony

What model Sony have you replaced your RH299H with? I'm considering buying 3x for business purposes and wouldn't want to waste time on sorting out problems. How does the Sony compare price wise - the LG currently sells for about R2499,00.

Yip I have pretty much had it with LG dvd recorders. I've had 3 now and everyone of them has had no disc or disc error issues. Next recorder has got to be a Sony, RDR-HX750 any good?

Awesome, I'm off to Makro in the am for one of them RDR-HX750's. I've had it with LG...

Yep, I started off with the LG recorder as well back then. It gave me video/audio sync problems. After I returned the 3rd unit, I went for Sony and never looked back. Cool things about the Sony are battery backup and that the recorder will record whether on or off ...although the LG had some minor features that the Sony lacked but I am sure it makes up for them in reliability.
