Last Friday I purchased a 19" LCD which has both VGA and DVI inputs. I thought the LCD came with the DVI cable but alas not so I used the VGA initially. Sunday I bought a DVI cable which I've now realised is a DVI-A (analogue) cable. Will I notice much difference if I now go and buy a DVI-D cable? I did notice a big improvement going from VGA to DVI-A.

DVI-D - True Digital Video
DVI-D cables are used for direct digital connections between source video (namely, video cards) and digital LCD (or rare CRT) monitors. This provides a faster, higher-quality image than with analog, due to the nature of the digital format. All video cards initially produce a digital video signal, which is converted into analog at the VGA output. The analog signal travels to the monitor and is re-converted back into a digital signal. DVI-D eliminates the analog conversion process and improves the connection between source and display.

Hope this helps :)

you cannot notice an improvement going from vga to dvi-a. It is the exact same signals from the exact same pins.

Thanks for the input. I'll get a DVI-D cable then.

Cheers.

Before you get it, read the link, scroll down and check how to spot a DVI-D cable, and does your monitor support it? No use wasting more money.

Thanks. I see now that what I bought was in fact a DVI-D cable although is was marked as a DVI-A cable.

Again thanks for all the input.
