Sentech shuts down E-tv's digital TV transmissions

Sentech has reportedly switched off E-tv's digital terrestrial television (DTT) transmissions, leaving only its analogue TV and streaming services available to viewers.

In a support message seen by MyBroadband, Sentech said it switched off the service because E-tv has yet to agree on the DTT Master Transmission Agreement (MTA).

This analog switch off is dragging too long. They should start transmitting a looping "your TV will stop working buy a setup box" message every second or third day the entire day for the next couple of months and then just switch the stupid thing off. The amount of money South Africa is losing because of this BS is staggering.

It's dragged on so long, there is probably so few actual analog tvs left that require a set top box

Still using 2 of mine :giggle:
Some of them last 4eva, and new ones available cheaply at e.g. the Bruma Chinese mall.

But the power consumption for the screen size???

Etv has their own decoders so no worry. I also doubt the number of analogue viewers given. Most people who received STBs (and STDs) sold them on.

Been long ago gone, but not on the black market
I dunno. Most TVs sold in the last 10 years have digital capability, it just needs to be enabled. So where is all this old stock coming from?

OpenView is pretty cool
