EA breaks your disc? Too bad, your problem.

I also like the 3rd design and hate the push-down ones.

If EA don't want to replace the CDs, then thats just another benefit for piracy?

I actually like fig1&2 cases . . .

My worst is the standard DVD "solid ring" type. My LoTR LE box set is the worst! I could barely get the disks out of the cases the first time!

My copy of BF2 and BF2:SF came with the pushdown ones which I don't use...... actually come to think of it, I don't use the discs at all.

Game images FTW!! :D

I've lost one game due to disc damage (Little Big Adventure, man I loved that game :) ). From then on I try and play mainly with game images. And untill the day they allow you to swap out your faulty disc, easily an free of charge, I will continue using game images.

So EA, and any other game makers for that matter, can kiss my hairy white butt.

I have a standing rule .. if I buy a game (new or second hand) .. the first thing I do is get the no-cd crack ... and store original away... works best for me....

After being burned by copy protected PC games a couple of times, I tried to avoid buying protected games, or at least wait until the no-cd patch was available.

Since I got my PlayStation 2 (I waited for the modchips to become available before I bought my console) I haven't had any problems with copy protection. In fact, I haven't really used my PC for gaming at all. Goodbye DirectX and OpenGL problems, display card driver problems, sound card driver problems... the list goes on and on.

Just my R0.02 worth.

used to work for a place that services laptops.
laptop drives either have a 3-ball bearing arrangement or a system of pin/clips to hold the disc down on the centre hub.

You have no idea how many diagnostic cd's we replaced each month due to little spider-type cracks forming on the discs themselves from repeated use.

IMHO, the idea of clamping down a plastic hub is NOT a good idea, even from a packaging point of view. Most of the time, I either end up breaking the cd (2%) or I break the cd case (98%) just by removing the disc.
I must be dof.

"Designed obsolescence" maybe there's a market for aftermarket metal disc reinforcements . . .

Maybe this is just punishment for supporting a company like EA.

grab it at the side and lift upwards

Must be what a lot of idiots were doing to rented discs.

First one looks like the original Amaray cases. I don't know about those cases breaking discs. I've never had them damage a disc and they were for a long time one of the two main types of cases for DVD movies. Maybe if you are rough with your discs and don't remove and insert them gently.

Seond type doesn't look like it should put any less stress on the centre ring of the disc.

The third type has two problems - if the centre is made too fat you have flex the disc to get it off, and the centre will sometimes wear down so that eventually the disc just falls off.

If you do get hairline cracks on the inner rim you can use a little epoxy, or if you get it polycarbonate, to cover them and prevent it from getting longer.

ahhh the debate. ye i love console its easy fun (some games are there that aren’t on PC) but this is what I hate.....
the obvious.... play a game on ps2 for a while ... buy the comp copy... and be amazed. I have been pissed off many a time by games. (eg. NFSMW:BE played it on pc first. went to my cuz and was like WTF y is the graphics on SUPA LOW?) but consoles are fun and less trouble. but play quake or the likes on pc then console. EGAD!! now be4 u open your mouth and say "but what about the controller?" I got a 12button game pad with analogue dualshock and the whole tuut. oh and u cant mod ps2 games :p
but **alas** is getting expensive. I need a new HDD and a new graphics card so that I can play hitman:blood money... and im broke already :(

The Playstation 2 is a particularly egregious example of poor graphics. I own one, and I don't regret owning one, but the graphics were only briefly better than what a PC could produce. I think this will always be true for consoles as they are basically frozen in time.

I use my PS2 or Gamecube controller on my PC.
