Ok, so he recent influx of Early 2015 Macbook Air deals are tempting (Current Makro deal). Is the current deals worth it? Is a Macbook Air worth buying? I'll only be using it for Web browsing, an some casual programming. Can that 4GB of ram be upgraded to a little more?

It can't, the current non-retina (2011) MBPro is the only model since 2012 than can be upgraded in almost any way.

I got the 2014 MBA for R12 000 last year this time.

Its been a great buy. :)

I still have the original OS and Windows 7 on it, so I can't say how El capitan and Windows 10 will run on it.

The 4 gigs of ram has been good enough, I was also concerned about that.
I don't think you can upgrade it.

Mine has a 128 GB SSD, which has been big enough so far. I don't store my media files on it, if I go away for a weekend or so, I may copy a few movies etc onto it.

If you need more space you can always get one of these:

You can get an extended warranty for it which you can buy just before your one year warranty expires, so don't buy it on day one if you don't want to.

And how does it handle a little bit of Java/Python/PHP programming when you throw it at it?

Seems excessive to buy a MacBook Air just for web browsing and basic programming.

And thats its kind of limit.. I have an air... and a pro 15.
The air is really just at the limit of still being a useful productive machine.
Using it to consume it works very well, just a pity its still old non retina screen
