I am expecting those prices to go down once it is officially released here.

Some of these online retailers take advantage of the fact that South Africa has to wait a few months for it to be released here.

You can get a Sony Xperia Z1 for about a R1,000 less.....

Who ever orders a 5c [at these prices] must have their heads read

When Apple says affordable they mean to them, not the consumer.:whistling:

Except Sony... and no iOS.
I'd pay an extra R1k to NOT have iOS :p

In the USA, the 5C seems to be half the price of the 5 but only when on contract. I suppose that makes the contract pay-in more affordable.

Wow, thats a dodgy looking site
Phoenix-tech is a legit site.

That's a much more realistic price. I'd expect the 5c to come in around 6.5-8, depending on the config. We're being crushed on exchanges right now.

Legit online store.

Simplicity always had extravagant pricing on iPhones. I remember they sold the iPhone 5 16GB for over 12k when it launched in the US/UK but was not available here.

My bet is iPhone 5s 16GB will be in the region of 8-9k once launched in SA, same as the iPhone 5 a year back.
5c i think will come in at 5.5-7k

Are you estimating non-contract prices ?

The iphone 5s in the UK isnt going to be that expensive. Not on contracts anyway. Most expensive on contract(£26 per month) for 64gb is £499.
I see Apple will sell the 64gb for £709. The 16gb will be £549 which is about your range of 8-9k. The 16gb 5c will come in at about £469 (R7.5k). Not worth it imo. Anyway, I cant get a 16gb. My storage used is currently 16gb :D

I am currently on £38 contract with O2. I will probably take up the 64gb EE £41 contract which means I need to pay £280 for the phone. Its less than what I paid(was at least £300) for my 32gb iphone 4 a few years back.

EDIT: Those UK prices include vat at 20%, so the SA prices may well be lower

Picked up a 5c from the Regents Street Apple store for the missus. Spent a little time with the demo models and it seems like a decent enough phone. Store was packed with particular emphasis surrounding the new phones.
