Earning just R600 a month, union says Zim state employees are too poor to go to work

Government workers in Zimbabwe can’t afford to go to work and may be forced to stay at home after surging inflation slashed the value of their pay by more than 90%, the main public-sector union said.

Zimbabwe is grappling with galloping price increases and a plunging currency that have spawned shortages of fuel and food. A currency devaluation earlier this year means that state employees who previously earned an average of $500 a month (R7 400 at current exchange grates) now earn $40 (R600 at current rates), the Apex Council Chairwoman Cecilia Alexander said in a statement on Tuesday.

As a result, some workers have become incapacitated and are having to borrow money for transport to get to work, Alexander told reporters in the capital, Harare.

“The council officially served government with a notification of incapacitation,” which may mean staff won’t be able to get to work, the council said. “We want to keep the system running, but we are urging government to create an enabling environment.”

African solutions to African problems: they didn't like the economy the colonizers left them so now they no longer have to..

Maybe the end goal is to actually collapse your country then wait for the hand outs to come flying in with US stamped bags of food.
Would be interesting to know the total amount of aid given to Africa as a whole, also how much come's from West and Europe vs the East.

It is utterly pathetic that they have yet to solve these issues. It is not rocket science, it just requires a but of discipline, and listening to those who know how to run an economy. I really don't get why some politicians are incapable of doing something so simple.

Too much and each time a worthy hand comes and gives Africa what it needs the same hand gets bitten.

R600 per month plus some dignity sounds like a good deal.

The Map is getting old, and I am not sure I fully agree with it. However Argentina/Venezuela has a very different racial group and has the same issue. Botswana and Namibia probably has people identical from a "map" perspective and they don't struggle with hyper inflation. Its not about that. Its a particular group of idiots that happened to be called ZANU PF.

Zimbabwe's problems are caused precisely by people who "knew" how to run an economy.

The only people who actually know what to do about the economy are the people who will tell you they don't know how to run the economy. They would tell you that the "economy" consists of the actions of millions of individuals, and thus you cannot do anything to it other than destroy it.

They are incapable of it because serfdom is the inevitable outcome of central planning, which is something these politicians are ideologically committed to do.

Fortunately our northern neighbour's unions have for decades been agitating for an ever-larger State, pushing to expand the government with more Five Year Plans, and urging politicians to expropriate the capitalists. Now they have it - another Great African Socialist Paradise. The government has everything, does everything, provides everything. Let them suck on their Government Teat and drink from their State Udder. The more the people drink from the only teat there is (the government one), the sooner they'll realise how they've been deceived and lied to by those who should know better. And, once the socialists and statists and their running dogs have been torn limb from limb, the people might be ready for liberation. Terrible days lie ahead.

Oh the IQ map, so many flaws in using averages, I can't even begin to express.
But Africa does have a huge education gap, so I'm hardly surprised.

The questions asked in the one I did in school was pretty abstract, unless you can read, write and reason in the language the test is conveyed in, good luck.
Only when I was an adult did I realize how silly many of the questions were.

IIRC they used very literal meanings of words to convey concepts like transitive closures and test if you realize the principle and etc.
But unless you understood the literal meaning of the word as such, it was pointless even asking.

Pointless test IMO.
