Big Internet cable faults cause connectivity problems

Internet connectivity in South Africa has been hit by submarine cable faults off the East coast of Africa.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies group CTIO Ben Roberts confirmed on Twitter that all subsea capacity between East Africa and South Africa was offline.

Yeah, MainOne. Doesn't really affect us, but they said on Friday their repair was complete.

Undersea cables were never a good idea and it proves even worse than expected.

Ubuntu just destroyed a community garden that we spent R50K to plant, tend and water to put their fiber in the ground.

Yeah, MainOne. Doesn't really affect us, but they said on Friday their repair was complete.

Its a brand new break within days after they fixed the previous one. They will have to keep their repairship running up and down the cable route permanently.

Knowing the cost of starlink , there isnt a very broad potential userbase for it.

Not only that, satellite gets congested very easily. People already complaining about bad speeds in certain areas on Starlink. Plus, fibre is cheaper to roll out.

That said, I agree with her, it should be made legal so that I can go nomad and enjoy life while working from home.
