Another great weekend!

EP Kings 52-10 SWD Eagles
Melbourne Rebels 27-30 Southern Kings

Post Cats split, it took the Lions an entire season to win a tour match, 24 February 2007 against the Western Force. The Cheetahs got their first draw on 23 April 2010 against the Chiefs, and first win on 19 March 2011 against the Waratahs. Hopefully that puts some perspective on how big this tour was for the Kings.

The Lions had the Loffie 3 Year Plan and then the JWWW Plan and then the Mitchell Plan. All were complete SR failures. In a few months the Kings - using a lot of Lions rejects - achieved more. Just shows that the Lions problem is not player related but management related. The players that get thrown away become winners elsewhere. The Lions had "The Greek" in there setup but he was forced to go to Cape Town to get game time for UCT which lead to WP, Stormers and now MOM for Kings,

GLRU is a very sick animal, but the tumor is not removed. The rest of the body has been cut off by now not to touch the tumor. They will appoint weak leaders when they can get excellent ones just so that the tumor can remain. Pity teams can't be bought outright and people fired. This rubbish where amateurs run professional teams killed the Lions ... and how ironic as it was with the Lions where professionalism started.

Gumede quickly identified the tumor, wanted it removed, but was then rejected as a threat to the Old Guard. And so the Lions will keep on effing up until one day the tumor dies.

That Ellis Park was built on an old rubbish dump was prophetic. Things have a way of returning to its origins. The Lions should have moved on, but vested interests in a group of stadiums in the area by some powerful players amongst the Old Guard worked against evolution ... and that has a way of creating monsters. The whole setup is totally f'd. But the clubs have the power to change that ... but no-one has the balls to step forward and take the big boys on. And so it will remain business as usual.

Never mind, Saru will change the rules. ;)

With the Kings doing so surprisingly well I believe the Lions franchise has come to an end. One team per province as the politicians want it seems fair now. Let the Lions feed the Bulls in SR like the Pumas and Leopards fed the Lions. Or they should go play in A European League of sorts with the other non SR franchises. There is now no way one can argue against the Kings playing in SR any more. Lions can make a return to SR in 2016 if they cannot find a European league solution.

To kick the Kings out after such an effort would be unfair.

Sometimes death brings an end to what could not be removed without it and puts seeds in the ground for a completely new thing to arise. Just what the Lions may require. Let the cancer kill the beast to bring the cancer to an end.

Start a whole new franchise based in Soweto. That is what Gauteng and SA need. Time for the Soweto Phoenixes to rise from the ashes of the Lions.

A whole rugby village can be created around FNB Stadium.

Time for serious change.

Doing so much better than the Lions ever did. Great stuff, especially after how everyone predicted they would get destroyed and embarrassed every week.

The first really disapointing game. Not only did we lose, but we played badly too.

Harsh treatment from the Waratahs. Although I think Naas made a good point. Everyone was sort of expecting this to happen at some point. So hopefully it's out of their system now, and they can go back to playing like they did in those first games.
